CITY OF DUBLIN CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, this year marks the 125th anniversary of the first American Red Cross which was founded in 1898 andfor more than 100 years, the American Red Cmss Bay Area (ARCBA) has led the effort to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters, and WHEREAS, compassion, courage, character, civic duty are inherent in the Red Cmss mission to prevent and relieve human suffering, and Dublin shares these grand ideals, and WHEREAS, the Red Cross, a leading voluntary agency, chartered and authorized by Congress to act in times of need, providing compassionate assistance to people afflicted by personal, local or national disasters; and WHEREAS, major disasters dominated the headlines in 2005, and while the American Red Cross Bay Area offered volunteers and support on a National and International level, they also continued to respond to over 600 local emergencies, assisted 1,700 military families and trained over 80,000 people in lifesaving skills such as CPR and first aid; and WHEREAS, the American Red Cmss Bay Area, and its over 3,000 volunteers and donors, provide valuable tools and education to individuals, families, workplaces and schools, making us all stronger and more resilient; and WHEREAS, we celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of the American Red Cross Bay Area to building a better quality of life, we must also look forward and each do our part to ensure that the Red Cross remains vital, ready to help prevent, prepare for and respond to the unknown challenges that lie ahead. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Janet Lockhart, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim March 2 6 as American Red Cross Month in the City of Dublin. DATED.
