CITY OF DUBLIN
CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, each year, Americans generate more than 230 million tons of municipal solid waste, which is approximately
4 pounds per day. ' The latest statistics show that Americans recycle at a national recycling rate of 28%, which is over 64
million tons. While this rate has doubled since 1990, there is a continual need to rededicate ourselves to recycling; and
WHEREAS, participating in America Recycles Day is one way the community of Dublin can help raise awareness about
the need to reduce waste by reusing, recycling and buying recycled products; and
WHEREAS, America Recycles Day has joined together businesses, industries, government agencies, nonprofit
organizations, and individuals to renew their commitment to recycling; and ~
WHEREAS, Waste Management encourages their employees, staff, customers and all citizens in the City of Dublin to
pledge to buy more recycled content products; and
WHEREA& the theme of the event is "A Great Time to Renew Our Commitment to Recycling", Waste Management will
distribute "recycled newsprint rulers" to the Dublin Unified School District, the City of Dublin offices, and the office of
Waste Management; and
WHEREAS, community leaders need to spread the word about the excellent programs they have established, the growth
of markets for recyclables, and the importance of buying recycled projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL FED that I, Janet Lo&hart, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council,
do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 15, 2001 is AMERICA RECYCLES DAY in the City of Dublin.
