Mayor's Appointment of Two City Councilmembers as Members of
a Regional Work Group for the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health
Initiative

Staff recommends the City Council confirm the Mayor's
Appointment of the Mayor and Councilmember Hildenbrand to the
Regional Work Group for the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative
for a limited time period ending December 2008.

The primary charter of the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative is to engage the youth in the Tri-Valley
in the planning process on health and wellness services for the adolescents living in the Tri- Valley region.
There have been a variety of accomplishments over the past three years from the Tri-Valley Adolescent
Health Initiative, such as the development of the Youth Health Survey, Youth Resource Guide, Regional
Stakeholder meetings, and various communication pieces using a variety of media to reach out to a
greater number of our youth.
One of the key elements of the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative was the creation of a Regional
Work Group made up of City Council and School District representatives to help develop a roadmap to
support the youth recommendations that were developed by the Youth Advisory Board of the Tri-Valley
Adolescent Health Initiative. Vice-Mayor Sbranti and Councilmember Hildenbrand were appointed by
the City Council to serve as the City Council's representatives in March of 2007. It was hoped that work
required from the Regional Work Group would wrap up by the end of 2007 but due to staffing changes,
the work has not progressed as originally envisioned.
There is a need to appoint two City Councilmembers to the Regional Work Group in order to complete
the necessary work on the roadmap of the youth recommendations. The Mayor is recommending the
appointment of herself and Councilmember Hildenbrand for the limited time period ending December
2008.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council confirm the appointment of Mayor Lockhart and Councilmember
Hildenbrand to the Regional Work Group for the Tri-Valley Adolescent Health Initiative for a limited
time period ending December 2008.
