HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 4.04 Senior Cntr RefrigerCITY CLERK File# 0350-20 AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: March 21, 2000 SUBJECT: Dublin Senior Center Refrigerator Report Prepared by Bonnie Leonard, Recreation Supervisor ATTACHMENTS: Budget Change Form RECOMMENDATION: 1) Approve purchase of commercial refrigerator for Senior Center ~ 2) Approve budget change FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Additional funding in the amount of $3000.00 will be needed DESCRIPTION: The Dublin Senior Center operates with one commercial refrigerator and the building's original built-in refrigerator, both of which are needed to support the Center's meal and special event program. Operation of the built-in refrigerator has become more and more problematic. The appliance has reached the point where it no longer functions in warm weather. Over the twelve years of Senior Center operation the City has provided considerable repairs to the appliance, however, it has become apparent that short of replacing the entire compressor system the appliance can no longer be repaired. It is the opinion of Staff that it would be more cost-effective to purchase a new freestanding commercial refrigerator. Staff has researched commercial brands of refrigeration and concludes that the Traulsen brand best meets the needs of the Senior Center. Total cost of a 46 cubic foot, stainless steel and anodized aluminum Traulsen refrigerator delivered to the Senior Center would be approximately $2700.00. In order to provide room for a new refrigerator of this size, two of the Center's freezers must be moved to a new location. New electrical circuitry must be installed to support this move. Estimated cost is $300.00. No provision was made in the 1999-2000 budget for this purchase therefore the refrigerator will need to be purchased through General Fund Reserves. A budget change form is attached. It is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council approve the purchase of a commercial refrigerator for the Senior Center and approve the budget change.
