FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: At the August 15, 2000 meeting of the City Council, ten youth were
appointed to the Youth Advisory Committee for a term beginning in September 2000. As the Committee
calls for a total of 13 youth, the application period was left open. Since that time one additional
application has been received from Kyle Champlin, a junior a Dublin High School (attached). The Mayor
has reviewed the application and recommends appointment of Kyle to the Youth Advisory Committee.
Staff recommends that the City Council confirm the Mayor's appointment to the Youth Advisory
Committee for the term ending August 2001.

YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPLICATION
Thank you for expressing an interest in serving on the Youth
Advisory Committee.
The purpose of the Committee is to provide input in youth
services, assist with implementation and promotion of youth
· activities and address issues that effect youth in the community.
The Youth Advisory Committee is made up of eleven members
appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council.
The term of office will be for twelve months with an opportunity
for re-appointment in August 2000. The twelve month term
commences in September and terminates in August. The Youth
Advisory Committee meets once a month; the first Thursday
evening at 7:30 p.m.

Y.A.C. offers an opportunity for teens to get involved in their
community. Y.A.C. strives to create a positive and creative youth
driven forum for teens in the City of Dublin. Teens work with
adult advisors to provide activities and events that teens need.
You can become a part of the team in a number of different
ways including "YAC Meetings", the "Street Team" planning
groups, and the "Teen Nights".
What is a Y.A,C,?
The City of Dublin has formed a Youth Advisory Committee (Y.A.C.) comprised of eleven
youth representatives from middle and high school along with adult advisors. This
Committee is responsible for providing input on recreational planning and addressing
issues that effect teens in Dublin. Teens who want to be involved in the planning,
promotion, and future development of activities and events for youth are encouraged to
attend the meetings. Tf you would like additional information about the Youth Advisory

Become a Committee member./
Each seat on the Y.A.C. is reopened at the end of every term. The 1998-1999 terms will
be coming to an end in August 1999. This is the time of year that we begin to recruit for
the September 1999 - August 2000 committee members. Tf you are a teenager, you live
in the City of Dublin, with ideas, energy, and motivation then this is the ideal situation for
you. The detailed information packet and applications will be available May 3, 1999.
Samples of the responsibilities include: attending monthly meeting, attending teamwork
training, volunteering, and participating in sub-committee planning groups. Applications
will not be accepted after 3une 18, 1999. To inquire about Y.A.C., receive an application,

1. I found out about the Youth Advisory Committee from my best friend Tony
Watts.
2. I've been going to the meetings since last year and from what I can tell Y.A.C has
a tremendous impact on what the teens in Dublin are allowed to do, and Y.A.C is
just one medium that teens can go through to get input on events in Dublin.
3. I am interested on serving on the committee because I really enjoy listening to
what my "fellow teens" would like to do and I can be a representative for them.
4. I think the most important and use-full skill that I have is that I am a people
person, and I get along well with a variety of people. I also come up with a few
creative ideas once and a while that may liven up Dublin for the youth.
5. Of all the events I would want to plan for I mostly would like to help with a Battle
of the Bands or the Dub Town Jam.
6. During the 1999-2000 school year I will be involved in Interact, Yearbook, and I
swim for the High School, (and I hope to be on Y.A.C)
7. I don't think that these events will be a problem for me because Y.A.C did not
affect my time last year and I only missed 2 meetings.
8. I truly want to serve on Y.A.C and I'm not sure if I would enjoy anything else as
much, but Teen Nights seems like my alternate choice.
