DESCRIPTION: Staff received a request from Mr. Armando Cansino of 3780 Hobstone Place to install an on-street disabled persons parking space in front of the Cansino residence. Section 6.04.230 of the Municipal Code allows the installation of on-street disabled persons parking spaces, which are indicated bY painting and maintaining blue curb. This would be the first on-street disabled persons parking space to be installed in front of a private residence within the City of Dublin. The City Council previously approved on-street disabled persons parking spaces at Nielsen School and Wells Middle School. As noted in the letter (Attachment 1), Mr. Cansino has a full-size van with wheelchair lift which will not fit in the garage or driveway. Staff has reviewed the parking available in front of Mr. Cansino's residence and finds that the proposed 20-foot disabled persons parking space would be accommodated entirely within the frontage of Mr. Cansino's property. The space could be used by any vehicle displaying an official Disabled Persons Placard. The Traffic Safety Committee has reviewed this request and believes that it is reasonable. If Mr. Cansino should move at a later date, the blue curb would be removed and the item deleted from the Traffic Code. Staff recommends that the City Council adoPt the resolution approving a 20-foot disabled persons parking space in front of 3780 Hobstone Place. I am medically certified as a handicapped person using wheelchair/crotches. My predicament is, our full-size Dodge Van is too long for our garage an.d if I park in front of our gm'age my wheelchair lifter would..partly obstruct the sidewalk. I wonder ill could request your good office to have a portion.of the curve in front of Om: house painted blue for my exclusive parking so that I would not be obstracting the pedestrians using the sidewalk. Your favorable con.sidemfion for this request will be ~eatly appreciated.
