Resolution Amending Salary Plan for Part-Time Personnel
RECOMMENDATION:/~ Adopt Resolution
FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
The increase will only affect those positions with a minimum salary
range less than $6.25/hr. For the Year 2000, the total wages of
employees earning less than $6.25/hr. was $5,636.35. If the same
number of hours at the new minimum salary range of $6.25 were
assumed, the total wages would be $5,870.19, for a total annual
increase of $234.84.
DESCRIPTION:
The State of California Industrial Welfare Commission (IWC) recently adopted a minimum wage increase
that applies to all public employers. The minimum hourly wage was increased to $6.25 beginning January
1,2001, and will further increase to $6.75 on January 1, 2002.
There are currently two classifications (Recreation Leader I and Recreation Specialist) in the City's Salary
Plan for part-time personnel that fall below the new minimum hourly wage of $6.25. In order to comply
with the new law, the minimum salary range for both of these classifications must be increased to the new
minimum hourly rate of $6.25. In addition to the immediate increase to $6.25, the attached Resolution
also includes language that will automatically increase the minimum salary range for these two
classifications to $6.75 beginning January 1, 2002.
Currently there are only two part-time City employees whose salaries fall below the new minimum wage
and proposed minimum salary range. In accordance with the requirements of the IWC, their hourly wages
will be increased to $6.25, retroactive to January 1, 2001.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the Resolution amending the salary plan for part-time
personnel.
