Since the budget was prepared it has been determined that one set of entrance doors must be modified to operate either manually or by means of a pushbutton. Staff estimates the additional cost for this equipment will be $8,500. Therefore, it is anticipated the actual project costs may exceed the budget. A Budget Adjustment may be necessary to award the contract. DESCRIPTION: The 2000-2005 Capital Improvement Program includes the Shannon Community Center Door Replacement Project. Plans and specifications have been prepared for the project and the project is ready to be advertised for bids. The exterior wood doors at the Shannon Community Center are worn and in need of replacement. This project provides for the replacement of the 21 exterior wood doors with similar doors made of fir. The doors will be stained to match the existing wood frames. The door hardware is in good working order and will be salvaged and reinstalled as part of the project. In 2000 the City hired a consultant to conduct an evaluation Of the Shannon Community Center for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). As part of that study it was determined that motorized equipment is needed for one set of doors so that the doors will open automatically for someone with a disability. Modifications will also be made to the existing door hardware to make the hardware compliant with ADA. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the advertising of Contract 02-06 for bids. COPIES TO: G:\COUNCILX. Agenda StatementsL2002\05-07-02 Shannon Doors Bid Auth.doc
