Thompson, Public Works Director ATTACHMENTS: 1) Resolution 2) Section 7.08.070 of the Municipal Code 3) Location Map of proposed street name change RECOMMENDATION:?Q..~/ Adopt resolution approving the renaming of Digital Drive to FINANCIAL MENT: There is no financial impact to the City. New street name si~s will be installed by the developer of the Eastern Dublin B~T Transit Center development as the street is constructed. DESCRIPTION: At its regularly Scheduled meeting on April 1, 2003, the City Council reviewed a recommendation to rename Altamirano Way to Martinelli Way. However, it was Council's opinion that the future Digital Drive was a more appropriate street for renaming as it is a wider, more-traveled thoroughfare, and thus more in keeping with the City's desire to lend greater significance to honoring Mr. Martinelli. Therefore, Staff submits the following proposal: The renaming of the not yet constructed Digital Drive is proposed to honor Adolph Martinelli, retiring Planning Director for Alameda County. Mr. Martinelli has worked closely with and as a liaison to the City of Dublin in the development of the Surplus Property Authority's (SPA's) Santa Rita Property, now known as Emerald Park. In representing the County, Mr. Martinelli's contacts with the City have always been professional and fair, and have made the City/County coordination a smooth and seamless experience. Mr. Martinelli has devoted countless hours to making the SPA's Emerald Park development successful and a well-planned, aesthetically pleasing asset to the City of Dublin and its residents. For these reasons, Staff believes it is appropriate to honor Mr. Martinelli by this proposed street-naming. COPIES TO: ITEM NO. g:~agenmisc\agst rename Digital Drive In order to change the name of a street, notice must be made to various neighboring agencies, the Post Office, and emergency services provides to ensure that there are no similarly named streets in the area. Staff has sent out notices to the required agencies and none of the agencies has objected to the name "Martinelli Way". Section 7.08.070 of the Municipal Code states that if there are no addresses in use on a street, the name of which is to be changed, Council may make such a change without referral to. the Planning Commission and without a Public Hearing. In appreciation of Mr. Martinelli's efforts, Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution approving the renaming of Digital Drive to Martinelli Way.
