SUBJECT:
No Parking Zone on Village Parkway at New 1-680 On-Ramp South
of Dublin Boulevard
Report Prepared by: Lee S. Thompson, Public Works Director

RECOMMENDATION: ~Adopt Resolution
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: No cost to City for installation. There will be a minor cost to the
City for sign maintenance at a later date.
DESCRIPTION: At the January 18th meeting, the City Council reviewed a request
from the Alameda County Transportation Authority to install a no parking zone on Village Parkway south
of Dublin Boulevard. Because of concern expressed by employees in an adjacent building, the City
Council requested that the west side red curb be shortened and the item placed on the current agenda for
approval. The red curb now extends to a point 15 feet beyond the driveway of the building at 6400
Village Parkway, a total distance of 432 feet. This is 128 feet shorter than originally proposed, which will
allow continued on-street parking for approximately six vehicles (see Location Map, Attachment 2).
One consequence of this change is that the left turn lane for northbound traffic turning left onto the ramp
will be eliminated, which means that left turns must be made from the single through lane. Traffic studies
have indicated that the delay time for. through traffic would be minimal.
The new on-ramp from Village Parkway to 1-680 is expected to open within the next several weeks. It is
necessary to prohibit parking adjacent to the ramp for safety purposes.
The cost of installing No Parking Signs will be paid through the interchange project. Staff recommends
that the City Council adopt the resolution establishing the No Parking Zone.
