Approve Budget Change form. Direct staff to prepare formal acknowledgement to donor. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Acceptance of this donation will increase funding available for drag education without additional costs to the City of Dublin. DESCRIPTION: The Altamont Crufsers, a car club from Livermore, has donated $1,000 to the Dublin Polices Services Drug Education Program. The Altamont Cruisers have membership throughout the Tri-Valley and are based out of Livermore. The Altamont Cruisers hold various fundraisers with the majority of the proceeds going to local organizations. The Altamont Cruisers donated this money as part of their Cruisers Against Drugs Program. Acceptance of this donation will allow the Crime Prevention Unit to compile and distribute a Parent Resource and Education Guide. This resource guide would be distributed at community events and by officers as needed. Per Government Code Section 37354, it is recommended that all gifts and contributions be formally accepted by the City Council. Therefore it is the recommendation of Staff that the City Council accept the donation, approve the budget adjustment, direct staff to formally acknowledge the donor, and direct Police Services staff to purchase the needed material to create the resource guide. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Jim Jones (Chairman) at (925)455-8567. · cerely, ALTAMONT CRUISERS CRUISERS AGAINST DRUGS PROPOSAL FORM DESCRIBE THE BASIS OF THE PROPOSAL: The Dublin Police Services Crime Prevention Unit would like to create a "Parent' s Guide to Teenage Drug Use". This handbook would include information for both parents and teenagers regarding the dangers and warning signs of drug use, specific information on illegal drugs, and a listing of available assistance and resources for drug use. GEOGRAPIIIC AREA AND KIDS SUPPORTED This book would be targeted for the parents of middle and high school students in the Dublin area. Crime Prevention would have these handbooks available at our community events, which generally attract citizens from all of the Tri-Valley. Patrol Officers would have these books available to give out when they responded to a call and they felt the book was appropriate for the situation. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE REQUIRED INCLUDING SPECIFICS ON HOW THE MONEY WILL BE SPENT: Financial assistance of $1000 would allow the Crime Prevention Unit to pay for the printing, binding and reproduction of the books. Citizen volunteers and Police staff would complete the compiling and scanning of information. Distribution would be completed through Police personnel. PLEASE GIVE THE BACKGROUND ON YOUR ORGANIZATION AND PRESENT OR PREVIOUS PROGRAMS: A yearly Drug Education program is coordinated between Dublin Police Services and the Dublin Unified School District. This program helps students become more informed and self-confident regarding drug, alcohol and tobacco use. Students are mentally prepared to say "no" when pressured by peers to experiment with drugs. During 1999, the Crime Prevention Unit made 175 presentations to over 4,800 students. Our program continues to receive widespread support from the community, schools and businesses. The Parents handbook would allow Family members to reinforce what Dublin Police is currently teaching and be used as a valuable resource.
