A budget change in the amount of $9,277 71 from the General Fund (Fund (01) is necessary to fully fund this year's sidewalk improvements with a 10% contingency DRSCRIPTlON: On Febmary 7, 2006 the City Council authorized staff to solicit bids for the Contraet No. 06-0 I, 2005-2006 Arumal Sidewalk Safety Repair Program and Curb Ramp InstaUatlOn. The Annual Sidewalk Safety Repair Program (Remove and Replace) repairs sidewalk offsets of 3!4-ineb or more tbat may pose a tripping hazard. The Remove and Replace process is used in locations where the offset is more signifieant or where tree roots are eausing tbe offset. This procedure requires remmal of the existing sIdewalk, and III tbe ease of root problems, removal of the tree roots, and tben replacement of tbe eunerete sidewalk. While mamtenance of sIdewalks and other frontage improvements IS legally the responsibility of the private property owner, tbe City Council has adopted a City-paid sHle"alk repair program all a year-by- year hasis since 1983 At the budget heanng for Fiscal Year 2005-2006, the City Couneil extended the funding of the repmr program for an additional year This year, the side"alk safety repair program includes eonstlllction of approxImately five (5) pedestrian curh ramps that are funded through a Commumly Development Block Grant. A total of 2 hlds were reeeived for the project (Attachment 3). The low bidder is Sposeto Engineering, With a hid of $62,766.10. A budget change m the amount of $9,277 71 from General Fund (Fund 001) IS neeessary to fully fund the sidewalk improvements_ Staff has reviewed the bId results, cbeeked references, and recommends that the City Council 1) approve a hudget ebange in the amount of $9,277 71 from the General Fund (Fund 001), and 2) adopt the resolution awarding Contract No. 06-01, 2005-2006 Annual Sidewalk Safety Repmr Program and Curb Ramp Installation, to Sposeto Engineering.
