FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: At the May 17, 2005 City Council meeting, Councilmember Hildenbrand requested that Staff bring back a proposed resolution for City Councils' consideration opposing the proposed statcwide special election that is slated for November 2005. It appears that letters were sent out to all the elected city officials located ill Alameda County (14 Cities) and Contra Costa County (19 Cities) by the City of EI Cerrito which just passed a resolution on May 2, 2005 opposing the statewide special eJection in November 2005. The underlying reason for this opposition to the proposed statewide special elcction is thc cost associated, which is estimatcd at $70 million. Staff made contact with the City ofEI Cerrito to find out what the response has been to this request and was advised that the City of El Cerrito was not tracking the outcomcs from the letters that were sent but were hopeful that other cities were following suit. Rccommendation: Consider the attached Resolution or provide Staff with additional direction on this matter. ----------------------~~~------------~----------------------------~-----------~-----------~------------------ COPIES TO: II/cc~forms/agda!5tm r.doc \tib \ ITEM NO.
