HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 7.1 BrayComnsContract03-13 CITY CLERK File # [~~b~-~ AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: September 2, 2003 SUBJECT: Bray Commons Neighborhood Park, Contract 03-13 Report Prepared by Rosemary Alex, Parks and Facilities Development Coordinator ATTACHMENTS: 1) Bid Results 2) Resolution of Award RECOMMENDATION: FINANCIAL STATEMENT: 1) Adopt resolution awarding bid to Goodland Landscape Construction Incorporated Authorized Budget for Construction: $1,301,974 Lowest Base Bid 10% Construction Contingency Total Required to Award Contract $1,076,000 $107,600 $1,183,600 DESCRIPTION: As approved in the 2002-2007 Capital Improvement Program, design of the 4.8-acre Neighborhood Park in Dublin Ranch 'Area G will begin in Fiscal Year 2002-2003 and construction will be complete in Fiscal Year 2003-2004. After a series of public workshops in Fall of 2002, the City Council adopted the Conceptual Plan for Bray Commons on January 7, 2003. The primary park improvements include the following: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) 8) Dog Run Circular Walking Path Two Age Appropriate Play Areas Picnic Areas Basketball Court Grass Volleyball Court Restrooms Informal Grass Play Area On June 24, 2003 the City Council authorized Staff to advertise for bids on the project. In order to ensure that the project came within the approved budget, the design incorporated deductive alternates. If a deductive alternate is selected it would eliminate certain park elements from the base bid. The arbor by the picnic area, basketball court and hydro-seeding the turf areas were elements listed as deductive alternates. As shown in the Financial Statement the base bid is within the available construction budget, therefore it is not necessary to select any of the deductive alternates as a cost savings measure. At the end of the bid period on July 23, 2003 four bids were received from Goodland Landscape Construction, Valley Crest, Jensen Corporation and Robert A. B°thman. These bid results are described on Attachment #1. Upon careful evaluation of the bid results and consideration of the overall project, Staff recommends the award of contract for base bid in the amount of $1,076,000 to Goodland Construction. SCHEDULE: Award Contract Notice to Proceed Project Completion September 2, 2003 September 22, 2003 May 22, 2004 RECOMMENDATION: resolution in Attachment Incorporated. WHEREAS, the City of Dublin did, on July 23rd, 2003, publicly open, examine and declare all sealed bids for doing the work described in the approved Plans and Specifications for Contract No. 03-13, which Plans and Specifications are hereby expressly referred to for a description of said work and for all particulars relative to the proceedings under the request for bids; and WHEREAS, said bids were submitted to the City Engineer, who has reviewed the bids to determine the lowest bid which was responsive to the requirements of the bid documents; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does hereby award Contract No. 03-13 to the lowest responsible bidder therefor, to wit, Goodland Landscape Construction, Incorporated, at a bid of one million seventy-six thousand dollars ($1,076,000) the particulars of which bid are on file in the office of the City Engineer.
