DESCRIPTION:
At the January 4, 2005 City Council meeting, direction was given that Staff define a proposal to set-up a
fundraising effort for Tsunami Relief. In researching this item, Staff reviewed prior action by Council at
the September 18, 2001 City Council meeting; at that time, and by a unanimous vote, the Council
established a fund in the amount of $10,000, on behalf of the residents of Dublin, for the September 11,
2001 victims in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
. On January 18, 2005, Staff presented Council with a detailed report outlining a fundraising and outreach
program that included various suggestions for Tsunami Relief, some of which were:
· Post the information on the City Web site
· Prepare various media releases (which would include print, television, and radio)
· Set-up a City phone line for 30 days to help facilitate contributions to this disaster effort
Additional direction from Council, at the January 18, 200S meeting, instructed Staff to structure and
publicize this effort as a "matching program," with a IlUIXimum donation by the City of Dublin of up to
$10,000. Accordingly, a "matching program" was established and "ran" for a full 30 days. Staff is
pleased to bring the following results to Council regarding the contributions.

It is due to the generosity of Dublin residents and businesses, as well as a non-resident couple, who were
interested in donating to a cause that maximized their own contribution by providing a ''match,'' that has
underscored the success of this effort,
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that Council formally close this fundraising effort on behalf of the City of Dublin;
direct Staff to prepare a check from the City's Contingent Reserve for the American Red Cross, in an
amount matching the total contributions received (in the amount of$8,734.00); and extend appreciation to
the charitable donors that have made this fund-raiser a success.
