DESCRIPTION: The 5th Annual Day on the Glen Festival has been tentatively
scheduled for September 24 and 25, 2005. However, Staff has discovered that there are three other local
events planned for the same weekend. Thus, Staff is recommending that the City Council consider
· alternate dates for the festival. The following table lists the other events currently planned for early Fall.

As shown, there are three events scheduled the weekend of September 24th and 25th. Livermore will
sponsor its annual Airport Open House. In Pleasanton, the Alameda Fairgrounds will host the Kids Fest
and in downtown Pleasanton, the Annual Art & Heritage Days is also scheduled. Heritage Days did not
happen in 2004, however it had been an established event with significant attendance.
Only one local event is scheduled for the weekend of September 17 & 18. The Harvest Festival, held at
the Alameda County Fairgrounds, is a commercially sponsored arts and crafts show with multiple venues
throughout the Bay Area. This event is not targeted towards families. Consequently, Staff believes that
this event would have minimal impact on attendance at Day on the Glen, Staff recommends this weekend
as an alternate to September 24 and 25.

ITEMNO.~
The Black and White Party in San Ramon and the Home and Garden Show at the Alameda County
Fairgrounds are scheduled for October 1 and 2. Neither of these events presents a conflict with Day on
the Glen. However, moving it to October lends itself to a slight chance of cooler weather and rain. Staff
recommends this as a second choice.
Currently no events have been scheduled for the weekend of Septernber 10 and 11. However this
weekend is close to the Labor Day Weekend, which would move the event forward 14 days eliminating
two weeks of planning time. Additionally since many non-profit organizations do not meet during the
summer, it would minimize the tirne after Labor Day for these groups to prepare to participate in the
event. Staff recommends this date as a third choice.
At the Commission meeting in March, the Parks and Community Services Commissioners unanimously
recommended to the City Council to change the dates of the Day on the Glen Festival to the weekend of
September 17 and 18.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended the City Council direct Staffto change the dates of the Day on the Glen Festival to the
weekend of September 17 and 18 or provide alternate direction,
