DESCRIPTION: Dublin Pride Week is an annual event that seeks to promote a
positive image for the City of Dublin. The primary objective for Dublin Pride Week is to seek ways to
engage individuals and/or groups in action based activities to help improve the community. This year
Dublin Pride Week is scheduled to start on Friday, April 25th and will conclude on Saturday, May 3rd
2008. The 2008 Dublin Pride Committee is seeking to build on the success of previous Dublin Pride
Week events by engaging diverse community groups and individuals in the planning process. The
Committee is made up of members representing the following groups:
. City Council
. City Staff
· Dublin Unified School District
· Amador Valley Industries
· Dublin Chamber of Commerce
· Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD)
. citilinks
. Zone 7 Water Agency
· Dublin/San Ramon Women's Club
. Dublin Lion's Club
. Community Volunteers
Previously, the Committee developed a branding logo that the community could associate with Dublin
Pride Week. The attached brochure (Attachment 1) and informational flyers utilize this branding logo

Dublin's contribution to the global community and encourages people to work to improve our world
through environmental awareness and volunteerism as supported by the Dublin Pride Week activities.
The proposed 2008 Dublin Pride Activities are as follows:
Poster Contest:
The poster contest has been a Dublin Pride Week tradition for many years. The Dublin San Ramon
Women's Club has again volunteered to organize and manage the contest. The Poster Contest is open to
all Dublin students grades K-12. Winning artwork will be displayed at the Civic Center. Awards will be
handed out at a Dublin City Council Meeting.
School Giveaways:
Dublin Pride promotional items will be given to each child that attends school in Dublin. This year's
items include mood pens and rubber bracelets for all school aged children.
Food Drive:
Collection bins will be set-up at the two Safeway grocery stores within Dublin to collect non-perishable
items throughout the week of April 28th with all food collected to be donated to the Children's Emergency
Council.
Bus Obscura Project
Bus Obscura is a passenger bus converted to a multiple aperture camera obscura using a rear projection
technique that allows the individual images to flow into one another. As the bus moves down the street a
360 degree animated panorama is created inside. The City of Dublin is sponsoring this program with the
Dublin Fine Arts Foundation. The Bus Obscura will travel in and around Dublin, offering free 15 minute
trips to interested community members. Trips are scheduled for Friday, April 25th and will also be
available to all Dublin Pride Week volunteers on Saturday, April 26th, immediately following the
Volunteer BBQ Luncheon.
Household Hazardous Waste Collection:
Dublin residents will be allowed to drop off household hazardous waste free of charge and also pick up
free compost for their personal use. The event will be held at 5601 Arnold Drive (comer of Arnold and
Central Parkway) on May 3rd. An announcement with reservation information (Attachment 4) was mailed
to all residents in March.
E-Waste Collection:
A free e-waste collection service will be provided on April 26th where computers, televisions, and other
electronic goods can be dropped off.
Volunteer Day Projects:
Volunteer Day (Attachment 2) is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 and will conclude with a free BBQ at
Ted Fairfield Park provided by the Dublin Lion's Club. All volunteers will also receive a free "2008
Dublin Pride Week" t-shirt. Volunteer Day projects include the following:
Senior Assistance Projects
Volunteers will be helping elderly citizens take care of home maintenance projects such as painting,
cleaning, yard work, washing windows, etc.
Page 2 of3
SchoollmprovementProjec~
Volunteers will choose from designated school beautification projects. Activities may include painting,
repairs, cleaning, etc.
Nature Walk:
A Nature Walk is scheduled for Saturday, April 26th and will be guided by the East Bay Regional Park
District Ranger Katie Colbert along the Tassajara Creek Trail. A flyer is included as Attachment 3 with
information about the walk.
Water Wise Gardening Workshop:
An informational workshop will be provided at the Armstrong Garden Center on Saturday, May 3rd,
informing resident about drought tolerant gardening techniques.
Faerie Ring:
As part of the new Shannon Community Center project, there is an opportunity for interested groups and
individuals to engrave names or a message at the Center. This project is part of the gazebo removal and
redesign. Specifically, the gazebo will be removed and be replaced with a thematic re-creation of a "faerie
ring" from Irish folklore. The ring will be in the form of a circular bench approximately 20 feet in
diameter surrounded by a ring of concrete that will be sandblasted with donor names similar to the bench
in the Civic Center courtyard. The sandblasting will be provided at cost plus $5.00 with all excess revenue
donated to the Alameda County Food Bank (the order form is included as Exhibit A of Attachment 1).
Public Outreach:
The success of Dublin Pride Week is largely dependent on the outreach campaign developed to increase
the community's awareness and participation in the activities and volunteer opportunities. This year's
public outreach efforts include:
· Web site - www.dublinvrideweek.com. The web site was developed by citilinks as a way
for participants to obtain up-to-date information on the various activities and volunteer
opportunities surrounding Dublin Pride Week. The website also includes a place for
volunteers to sign up to participate in any of the events. The website is highlighted on all
other outreach materials listed below.
· Promotional posters - Posters displaying last year's Poster Contest winner will be
distributed to area businesses and schools.
· Newsletters - Announcements will appear in school newsletters, City's merchant
newsletter, Chamber of Commerce newsletter, and DSRSD newsletter.
· Press releases will be sent to area newspapers.
· CTV Video "Spots" will appear on Tri- Valley Community Television (TV30).
· Brochure- Dublin Pride Week brochure (Attachment 1) will be distributed to all
community and faith based organizations in the City and placed at strategic locations
throughout the City.
· Flyers - The Volunteer and Nature Walk flyers (Attachments 2 and 3) along with other
outreach materials will be sent to various targeted audiences within the community.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Council receive the 2008 Dublin Pride Week Activities Report.
