HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 8.2 Shannon Use DUSD Events~~~~~\ ~- ~ ~~ 1 `/ C;' /I, ~/~ CITY CLERK File # 0~^~-00 AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: .March 17, 2009 SUBJECT: ATTACHMENTS: RECOMMENDATION: Q~~~ FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Use of Shannon Community Center for Dublin Unified School District Events Report by Diane Lowart, Parks & Community Services Director None Authorize use of the Shannon Community Center for Dublin Unified School District sponsored events beginning in May 2009 provided that the events are in accordance with the rules, regulations and procedures established by the Shannon Community Center Facility Use Policy None DESCRIPTION: The Shannon Community Center Facility Use Policy and Rental Fee Schedule were adopted by the City Council on December 16, 2008. At this meeting, the City Council was informed that Facility Use Applications would be accepted from the public beginning on January 5, 2009 for events in June 2009 and beyond. Staff was contacted by the Vice Principal from Dublin High School about the possibility of holding a School District sponsored Senior Awards Ceremony at the Shannon Community Center on May 27, 2009. Given the proximity of the request to the June 1, 2009, date and due to the nature of the event, Staff approval of this request was granted. Since that time, Staff has received two additional requests from the School District for use of the Shannon Community Center. The first is for the Dublin High School Class of 2009 Parents organization's Senior Banquet on Friday, May 8, 2009. The second is for a staff retirement dinner sponsored by the Superintendent's office on Friday, May 29, 2009. Because Staff unintentionally opened the door for requests for use from the School District through the approval of the Senior Awards Banquet, Staff is seeking direction from the City Council on the two new School District requests. When the June 2009 start date for rentals was originally suggested, Staff wanted to make sure there was adequate time from the opening of the Center in March 2009 to complete punch- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COPY TO: ~, Page 1 of 2 ITEM NO. . At this time, Staff believes that the facility will be ready by May 2009 and Staff will be trained in order to accommodate the requests from the School District. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council authorize use of the Shannon Community Center for Dublin Unified School District sponsored events beginning in May 2009 provided that the events are in accordance with the rules, regulations and procedures established by the Shannon Community Center Facility Use Policy.
