Consideration of a Corrnnemorative Inscription in Recognition of
Co!. James Doty, Camp Parks Commander

RECOMMENDATION:
Consider Mayor Lockhart's request to corrnnission commemorative
inscription recognition of Co!. James Doty, Retiring Corrnnander of
Camp Parks.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
Sufficient funds are available in the Council's Corrnnunity
Promotions Budget to accorrnnodatc the $100 expenditure.
DESCRIPTION: Colonel James H. Doty, Jr., assumed corrnnand of Camp Parks, also
known as Parks Reserve Training Area, in Dublin, on June 27, 2003. During his tenure, Co!. Dotyhas
been an invaluable representative of the Army and has proven his interest in seeing that Dublin benefits
from the Army's presence in this community. He cares deeply about support and preservation of all first
line defenders, and public safety is his ultimate concern. Co!. Doty will surrender comm.and of Camp
Parks to Colonel William (Scott) Wood at a Change ofCorrnnand Ceremony on Friday, October 21,2005,
at 9:00 a.m.
As a mark of respect and recognition of such strong, caring leadership as provided by Co!. Doty to the
residents of Dublin, Mayor Lockhart is requesting that the City Council consider comJllissioning a
commemorative inscription which would recognize Co!. Doty's service to the City of Dublin. The
inscription, which would cost $100, would be engraved on a concrete bench leading up to the Public
Safety Memorial located in the courtyard ofthe Civic Center.
Staff is recommending that the Council consider Mayor Lockhart's request to corrnnission a
commemorative inscription honoring Co!. Doty's service to the corrnnunity.
