RECOMMENDATION:/~ ~t~ Adopt resolution approving the renaming of Altamirano Way to
' ~'~ MartinelliWay
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: There is no financial impact to the City. New street name signs will
be installed by the developer of the Eastern Dublin BART Transit
Center development.
DESCRIPTION: The renaming of the now-abandoned Altamirano Way is proposed
to honor Adolph Martinelli, retiring Planning Director for Alameda County. Mr. Martinelli has worked
closely with and as a liaison to the City of Dublin in the development of the Surplus Property Authority's
(SPA's) Santa Rita Property, now known as Emerald Park.
In representing the County, Mr. Martinelli's contacts with the City have always been professional and
fair, and have made the City/County coordination a smooth and seamless experience. Mr. Martinelli has
devoted countless hours to making the SPA's Emerald Park development successful and a well-planned,
aesthetically pleasing asset to the City of Dublin and its residents.
For these reasons, Staff believes it is appropriate to honor Mr. Martinelli in this manner.
In order to change the name of a street, notice must be made to various neighboring agencies, the Post
Office, and emergency services provides to ensure that there are no similarly named streets in the area.
Staff has checked the name against the Thomas Brothers maps for Alameda County and Contra Costa
County, and does not believe that there are any similarly named streets.

Section 7.08.070 of the Municipal Code states that if there are no addresses in use on a street, the name
of which is to be changed, Council may make such a change without referral to the Planning Commission
and ~vithout a Public Hearing.
Staff has sent out notices to the required agencies, but has not yet received all responses. The resolution
has subsequently been written to be effective upon receiving responses from all agencies that the name
"Martinelli Way" would not be a conflict.
In appreciation of Mr. Martinelli's efforts, Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution
approving the renaming of Altamirano Way to Martinelli Way.
