EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will recognize East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) and proclaim
Affordable Housing Week from May 8 — 17, 2015.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council recognize EBHO for their affordable housing advocacy
work and efforts in preserving, protecting, and expanding affordable housing opportunities
throughout Alameda County by proclaiming May 8-17, 2015 Affordable Housing Week.

DESCRIPTION:
The City of Dublin promotes and facilitates the development of high quality affordable housing
for households at a wide range of income levels and with a variety of housing needs and
preferences. The City's existing affordable housing stock is comprised of over 1,200 homes,
including single-family residences, condominiums, apartments, and secondary units. In addition,
the City offers home ownership assistance through the First Time Homebuyer Loan Program.
The City is currently working closely with Eden Housing on the development of the 66-unit
Veterans Family Apartments. The project will be located on the southeast corner of Golden Gate
Drive and St. Patrick Way, in close proximity to BART as well as numerous shopping outlets and
services. The development of Veterans Family Apartments has been made possible by a loan
from the City's Affordable Housing Fund, funding from Alameda County, a land dedication from

Bay West, and other financing programs. Eden expects to break ground on this project in the
late summer or early fall this year.
EBHO has organized Affordable Housing Week for 19 years. This year the week will feature 21
events, including grand openings, groundbreakings, tours, and panel discussions. A complete

"Affordable Housing Week"
WHEREAS, quality affordable housing is vital to building healthy, safe, vibrant, and diverse communities; and
WHEREAS, affordable homes are the solution to homelessness and provide support to seniors, families,youth, veterans, and people
with disabilities; and
WHEREAS,rising housing costs have led longtime residents to be displaced, live in overcrowded and substandard homes, or become
homeless, threatening our region's diversity and economic prosperity; and
WHEREAS, creating new permanent affordable homes and preserving and improving existing rental housing helps our residents
maintain community roots and encourages racial and economic diversity for generations; and
WHEREAS, development of affordable homes close to public transit and jobs can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide
low income families better access to opportunities and amenities; and
WHEREAS, empowering residents living in affordable housing as advocates helps to shape better housing, tenant protections, and
development policies; and
WHEREAS, non-profit organizations, local jurisdictions, community organizations, and many others continue to build inclusive
communities by providing shelter, homes, and support for low-income people and those with special needs; and
WHEREAS, East Bay Housing Organizations (EBHO) has organized Affordable Housing Week for 19 years and will feature 21
events acknowledging the need for and contributions of affordable housing.
THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED, that I, David Haubert, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council, hereby proclaim
May 8 —17, 2015 as "Affordable Housing Week"in the City of Dublin; and the City will continue to work to support affordable
housing at the local, regional, and state level, and will encourage Dublin residents to participate in Affordable Housing Week.
