Soto, City Clerk EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Council will consider Tammy Goldstein's request for the placement of Purple Ribbons on City street trees to recognize the "Paint Your Town Purple" Campaign. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the placement of purple ribbons on City Street trees. ~~ ~ . / ~ ~, (,-1,~~, ~ ~. ~ r ~ .~ Submitted By Reviewed By City Clerk Assistant City Manager DESCRIPTION: Tammy Goldstein, Dublin Relay for Life Event Chair, has requested the City of Dublin approve the placement of purple bows on Dublin streets to promote the Relay for Life community event which will take place May 19-20, 2012, at Wells Middle School. Relay for Life is an event, in association with the American Cancer Society, that gives communities a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. This is the sixth year this request has been made and, if the City Council concurs with this request for the placement of Purple Ribbons, Dublin Relay for Life Event volunteers would once again organize the placement and removal of the ribbons on City trees and poles along Dublin Boulevard and Village Parkway, from May 5-12, 2012. Ribbons will only be placed on City trees and poles along the street sidewalks and not be placed on the street median trees or control devices (i.e. stop signs, directional signs and cross walk signs). Dublin Relay for Life Proclamation Page 1 of 1 ITEM NO. 3.1 A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA "DUBLIN RELAYFOR LIFE WEEK" WHEREAS, Relay For Life is a unique community event that recognizes individuals who have survived cancer as well as honors those who have lost their life to the disease; and WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service; and WHEREAS, the Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society s signatl~re event and means by which the organization accomplishes its mission; and WHEREAS, Dublin has the pleasure of hosting Relay For Life Dublin, California on May lg-2o, 2012, to honor cancer survivors, educate the general public about the importance of early detection and prevention of cancer, and raise funds in the fight against cancer. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Tim Sbranti, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim May 13-2015, 2012 the "Dublin Relay For Life Week" and urge our citizens to participate in this effort to eradicate cancer as a major health problem.
