Hon. Mayor Sbranti, Hon. Vice Mayor Biddle, Hon. Councilman Hart and Hon. Councilman Haubert: I am supporting the appointment of Mrs. Wherenberg. I worked with Doreen on the Planning Commission for four years, Jan. 2009 - Jan. 2013. From my first hand observations I can attest that she came prepared to every Planning Commission meeting 100% ready. Her perception of possible problem areas was always approached with city staff and project applicants with respect but with questions which drilled down into a potential problem. On many occasions the perception of problems came from her visits to the proposed project areas. From my perspective, I witnessed her support for staff proposals which were aimed to streamline new business approvals. Mrs. Wherenberg was an instrumental planning commissioner of the home development projects in Eastern Dublin. The inclusion of parks, ample resident parking, varied articulation of home designs and the elimination of single car garages were consistently supported by Doreen. With the continuing development for Dublin such as the downtown area, and the opportunities for the mixed use of land, particularly in Eastern Dublin, would be enhanced if Doreen were part of the City Council. I am convinced that a City Council which includes Doreen Wherenberg will make better decisions for the improvement of Dublin through the strategies and goals approved by the City Council. Respectfully submitted, Alan Brown Resident of Dublin Former Planning Commissioner 1 From: Karen Long _ Sent:Thursday, February 14, 2013 11:35 AM To: cierkgrp Subject: Doreen Wehrenberg-Appt to City Council Hello, I would like to offer my support of Doreen Wehrenberg's bid for City Council. We have a School Board meeting starting at 5:30 as well. Having just completed this process with the School Board, I appreciate the process and I am sure there are several qualified candidates. I would like to express my support for Abe Gupta. I was very impressed with him when I interviewed him for the open School Board position. There were several items that stood out but one really stood out to me. Abe understood The City of Dublin and Dublin Unified School District in great detail. He researched the place where he would call home and raise his kids. The depth of his understanding and his diligence to learning about our community was very impressive. He has a passion for this community and wants to serve. As he is already serving on the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement Board. I want to make sure to comment on one other facet of my interview with Abe. His balanced approach to my questions and his thoughtful and through answers were impressive. It was a pleasure to talk with him and see someone wanting the best for our City and students. You can see by Abe's resume, he is a good leader with the experience in driving business to benefit our City. I believe Abe would make a great addition to the Dublin City Council and serve our community with dedication and passion. Thank you for all your hard work for our City and I know you will make a good choice. Sean Kenney,VP Dublin Unified School Board • 1 February 19, 2013 Caroline Soto, City Clerk City of Dublin 100 Civic Plaza, Dublin, CA 94568 RE: Recommendation for Tara Bhuthimethee for Council Appointment Dear Mayor Sbranti, Vice Mayor Biddle, and Councilmembers Hart and.Haubert: I understand that Tara Bhuthimethee is a candidate for the recently vacated Dublin City Council seat. I worked with Tara for about six years when I was the Community Development Director for the City of Fremont and I appreciate this opportunity to describe her so that you may also have the opportunity to know and respect her as I do. Tara, professionally, is a landscape architect that has worked in the engineering and community development departments in the City of Fremont. She is well-known among the staff, developers, and applicants for being practical, thoughtful, creative, and fair. She is also able to develop sustainable ways of doing business and creating design. Her median and public work designs have been sustainable both from a maintenance and financial point of view and simply beautiful. Because she treats everyone with respect and professionalism, Tara is able to work well with a variety of individuals in various fields of expertise. Personally, Tara is a team player with a positive attitude. Tara's involvement in ice hockey is the epitome of her team spirit and hard work. She is able to hold her own as a right wing on the offensive line in a men's ice hockey league for over a decade. She has earned a reputation for being tough and a great team member. Similarly, Tara was designated by other climbing team members to be the lead to summit elevation 20,305' in the Everest region of the Himalayas last year. She is someone her various team members count on and respect. She finds the positive attributes of all those with whom she works and plays. While she is extremely accomplished in many areas, she has the attitude and confidence that means she doesn't compete for recognition. She has played a variety of sports and consequently appreciates the value of recreation for youth and adults. She realizes that connections with her community and her design creativity are where she can add the most value. Most importantly, Tara is involved in, appreciates, and advocates for Dublin from her position on the Planning Commission, as a volunteer, and as a caring resident. I highly recommend her for the Dublin City Council. I am writing to express my support for Tara Bhuthimethee to fill the recently vacated City Council seat. Having been former colleagues at the City of Fremont, I have known Tara for several years, both professionally and personally. Having been employed in the public sector, I am familiar with working with staffs and Councils at different municipalities, and believe that Tara is a standout candidate for Council. Her understanding of Planning and Public Works processes allow her to make intelligent Council decisions, especially as they relate to land development and capital improvement projects, respectively. Additionally, her involvement in the public outreach process on projects provides her with compassion and sensitivity towards the needs of Dublin's constituency. When it comes to serving a greater good and representing a community, she possesses qualities in her character to excel at the job. Having seen open Council seats filled by appointment in the past, I know that it is never an easy decision. However, given the opportunity, I am confident that Tara will not only fulfill obligations of the role, but I know that she will make you and the people of Dublin proud. I have known Tara Bhuthimethee and her work as a Landscape Architect for the City of Fremont since she started working at the City six years ago. During that time I have come to know Tara on both a personnel and professional level and can definitively say that she would make an excellent Councilmember for the City of Dublin. During her time with the City of Fremont Tara has shown a clear dedication to public service and a • desire to improve our community in multiple ways. She has developed great rapport with our engineers as she worked with them on several capital improvement projects. Similarly, she has elicited positive feedback from the public on several of her design projects including, for example, our Osgood Road widening project, the Paseo Padre Parkway/Grimmer Boulevard Intersection Improvement Project and our Teen Center. Her efforts have contributed to a more cohesive look to the City through landscape design. She has worked collaboratively with other public agencies like BART, Santa Clara VTA, and the Alameda County Water District to help inform her design decisions. One of Tara's greatest attributes is her excellent interpersonal skills. She has helped create a community among the various employees with whom she has worked. Tara is a great team player who is always willing to do whatever is necessary to get the job done while maintaining a positive attitude. I run the retail development group in California for Catellus Development Corporation and have had the distinct pleasure of working with Tara on various stages of our 1 million square foot Pacific Commons shopping center in Fremont,California. I have always been impressed with the vision, direction and professionalism that Tara has shown in my dealings with her. Most recently, she worked closely with me and my design team on our new entertainment district of Pacific Commons called The Block. The Block is anchored by Target and a 16- screen Century Theatre which opened last year. It was critical that he people places, vehicular approaches and gateway elements worked harmoniously together in order to differentiate this district from the others of Pacific Commons. Tara's creativity and place making skills were critical in achieving a result that all of us involved are extremely proud of. Her expectations and directions were very clear and fair. She was respectful of our ideas, but not afraid to share hers and do so in a constructive and productive way. I have a great deal of respect for Tara and highly recommend her for your final City Council seat. Tara is a hardworking, dedicated and very pleasant individual that would represent the citizens of Dublin with the utmost integrity. First, as a long time Alameda County resident and Community Development Director for the City of Fremont, I wanted to complement the City Council on your transformative efforts to create a vibrant and dynamic City. These efforts combined with the strong retail and improved dining opportunities lead me to choose Dublin over many nearby communities to meet my shopping and service needs. In particular, your efforts to create identity through signage and art; formulate a more cohesive downtown and support of transit-oriented development are all admirable. Tara has worked for the City of Fremont as a Landscape Architect for the past six years and has been instrumental in assisting Fremont with several high profile projects including our highly successful Pacific Commons regional center and our Downtown planning and implementation projects. In both instances Tara was instrumental in making sure the City benefitted through quality design and forward thinking. As an example,Tara worked closely with the developer, Urban Housing Group,to create an urban park within the City's downtown. Tara realized that the pavement color(dark graphite) chosen in the Downtown Plan was not a good choice from a sustainability and climate change perspective and worked to integrate a change to a more reflective and suitable tan color that still met overall design objectives. Tara also has an excellent rapport with her development review colleagues as well as private developers and did an excellent job coordinating design details of the urban park with an adjacent streetscape project funded by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. Her eye for detail and forward thinking have both contributed extensively to elevating the level of design in projects throughout the City. Above all else, Tara is dedicated to public service. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and Bay Friendly Professional, dedicated to sustainability. She is an outstanding team player, exhibits excellent working and interpersonal relationships and always has a positive, can do, attitude. I also witness Tara's dedication to the City of Dublin and her desire to make it an even better place. Over the years she has come to me for advice on how to she can be a more effective Planning Commissioner and how to effectively inform design and communicate with staff. Finally,I wanted to close by noting that as Community Development Director for the City of Fremont,I am proud to note that four out of our five City Council members were previously on the Planning Commission. The experience that comes from serving on the Planning Commission is an invaluable asset as a large body of the work that a Council considers is in relation to development activity.
