Foss, City Manager SUBJECT: Appointments to Youth Advisory Committee and Student Representative to Parks and Community Services Commission Prepared by: Lisa McPherson, Recreation Manager EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Council will consider confirmation of the Mayor's recommended appointments of two (2) middle school and eleven (11) high school youth, along with three (3) alternates, to the Youth Advisory Committee for the term of June 2019 through May 2020. The City Council will also consider the Mayor's recommended appointment of Siri Phaneendra as the Student Representative to the Parks and Community Services Commission for the term of July 2019 through June 2020. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Confirm the Mayor’s appointments to the Youth Advisory Committee and the Student Representative to the Parks and Community Services Commission for the 2019 - 2020 terms. FINANCIAL IMPACT: N/A DESCRIPTION: Youth Advisory Committee Appointments The term of office for the current Youth Advisory C ommittee expires on May 31, 2019. During the months of February and March 2019, recruitment efforts took place to encourage middle school and high school students to apply for appointment to the upcoming term of office. Per the Bylaws and Rules of Procedure for the Youth Advisory Committee, the composition of the Youth Advisory Committee is composed of a minimum of nine (9) and a maximum of thirteen (13) youth members, plus three (3) alternates. At least three (3) must be from middle school and six (6) from high school. In the event that there are insufficient applications to meet the middle school to high school ratio, the Mayor may Page 2 of 3 make appointments from any of the grade levels. Additionally, there are four (4) non- voting adult members representing Dublin Police Services, Dublin Unified School District, Dublin Chamber of Commerce, and the At-Large Community. The Mayor, with the approval of the City Council, appoints the youth members, the one (1) at-large adult member, and the three (3) alternates. The remaining three (3) adult members are appointed by their representing agency. Forty (40) applications were received for the youth member positions; thirty-eight (38) will be high school students and two (2) will be middle school students. This year, no applications were received for the adult at-large community member. The application period for the adult at-large community member will remain open until filled. Mayor Haubert recommends appointment of the following middle and high school students to the Youth Advisory Committee: Members Grade in 2019-2020 School Divyansh Agrawal 6th Fallon Middle School Moises Merino 7th Fallon Middle School Romal Mitr 9th Quarry Lane School Rithu Lakshman 9th Quarry Lane School Medha Gowda 9th Dublin High School Saanya Goel 10th Dublin High School Hollis Carey 10th The Athenian School Harsimar Saini 10th Dublin High School Diya Vij 10th Dublin High School Steven Chan 11th Dublin High School Trishala Jain 11th Dublin High School Grace Marnon 11th Valley Christian School Visvesh Jegadheesh 12th Dublin High School The recommended alternates to the Youth Advisory Committee are: Alternates Grade in 2019-2020 School Mannat Dhot 9th Dublin High School Akul Gowda 10th Dublin High School Kandace Chen 11th Valley Christian School Student Representative to the Parks and Community Services Commission The current term of the Student Representative to the Parks and Community Services Commission expires on June 30, 2019 . During the months of February and March 2019, recruitment efforts took place to encourage high school students to apply for the position for the upcoming term of office. A total of four (4) applications were received by the application deadline. Page 3 of 3 Mayor Haubert recommends the appointment of Siri Phaneendra as the Student Representative to the Parks and Community Services Commission for the term commencing in July 2019 and expiring in June 2020. Ms. Phaneendra will be a senior at Dublin High School next school year. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH: The openings for the appointments were advertised at the local middle and high schools, on the City’s website, and through the City communication channels. A copy of the Staff Report was sent to those youth being considered for appointment. ATTACHMENTS: None.
