SUBJECT: Recognition of Outgoing Dublin Police Chief Tom McCarthy

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will recognize outgoing Dublin Police Chief and Alameda County Sheriff
Commander Tom McCarthy for his outstanding work serving the Dublin community.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council recognize Chief McCarthy for his contribution to the
Dublin community.
DESCRIPTION:
Dublin Police Chief Tom McCarthy has announced his plans to leave his post at the end of this
month to become the Executive Director of the East Bay Regional Communications System
Authority (EBRCSA).
A 32-year veteran of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, Tom has spent the last four and a half
years as Commander of Dublin Police Services through the City's contract with the Sheriff's
Office.
In addition to providing his leadership to the men and women of Dublin Police Services, Tom
has been a constant presence in the community, hosting activities such as the popular "Coffee
with the Chief' program, as well as serving as a speaker at a multitude of school, community,
and neighborhood association meetings. He has also facilitated and hosted numerous seminars
and programs on topics of importance to the Dublin community, including teen prescription drug
use, and oversaw the Police Department's Citizen's Academy and summer Youth Academy.
Staff recommends the City Council formally recognize Tom's contribution to the City of Dublin
during his tenure at Chief of Police.
