City Council Role in Emergency

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will receive an overview for executives and senior officials relating to
their role in an emergency.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Receive the presentation from the Alameda County Fire Department.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None
DESCRIPTION:
Emergency management and preparedness best practices are a critical part of the
City's Mission of ensuring the prosperity and well-being of the Dublin community. All
City staff assigned to a position in the City's Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
receive training for their particular section and specific function. In times of
emergencies, the Dublin City Council plays a key role in emergency management
including:
- Review and approve Proclamations of Local Emergency;
- Serve as a liaison to community organizations;
- Provide special legislation and develop policy;
- Consider and advise recover strategies;
- Serve as a liaison to other City, County, State and/or Federal government
representatives.
Fire staff, will give a presentation/training to the City Counc il regarding roles and
responsibilities before, during and after and emergency.

STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE:
Strategy 2: Enhance the City's engagement efforts to better connect and inform
residents of City activities and public safety matters.
Strategic Objective 2d: Put greater emphasis on the disaster preparedness efforts by
the City.
