A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL J CITY OF, D UBLIN, CALIFORNI.4 y W ~3 ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ \ y~ ~ ~ "National Blood Donor Month" WHEREAS, Donating blood is a potentially lifesaving gift that millions ofAmericans can give and that may save three lives with one blood donation; and WHEREAS, There is a need for additional healthy, regular volunteer donors to join the ranks of those who already give so generously to ensure an adequate blood supply ancl to stress the importance of giving the "Gift of Life " through the donation of blood; and organizations and businesses, if they have not already done so, to form blood donor groups to provide blood for others. WHEREAS, Every day blood is needed in hospitals and emergency treatment facilities for patients with cancer and other diseases, for o~~gan transplant recipients, and to help save the lives of accident victims; ancl WHEREAS, The A~nerican Red Cross Northern California Blood Services Region distributes more than 130, 000 pints of blood per year to help save localpatients, yet fewer than 100, 000pints of blood are collected in the region annually; and WHEREAS, Some 38 percent of the public is eligible to donate, yet fewer than 8 percent of these individuals present to donate blood. NO W, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL VED, that we; the Dublin City Council, do hereby recognize Janacary 2011 as Natioiaal Blood Do~zor Month i~z Dublin, California and we urge citizens in good health to donate regularly.
