Foss, City Manager SUBJECT: St. Patrick's Day 2018 Festival Report Prepared by: Tegan McLane, Cultural Arts & Heritage Manager EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Council will receive a report on the 2018 St. Patrick's Day Festival. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Receive the report. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The City received $80,250 in cash sponsorship toward the St. Patrick’s Day Festival and Shamrock 5K Fun Run & Walk. DESCRIPTION: Despite some “authentic Irish weather” with gray skies and rain on Saturday afternoon and fog on Sunday, the 35th annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival and 20th annual Shamrock 5K Fun Run and Walk were well-attended and successful. An estimated 65,000 people attended the Festival over the course of the weekend. The Fun Run had its second highest attendance in history, with 2,278 registered runners and walkers. Festival sponsorship topped last year’s record, with 28 businesses providing $73,500 in cash sponsorship. Fun Run sponsorship was also higher than last year’s contributed revenue, with five businesses providing $6,750 in cash sponsorship. Title sponsor Dick’s Sporting Goods gave $3,000 in cash and $3,400 in gift certificates. A large number of in-kind donations were also received for both the festival and the Fun Run. In-kind donations help to reduce expenses and/or allow the City to enhance the experience for participants beyond what was originally planned.
