interested1. Why are you on the Heritage& Cultural Ar
Cor'l i
ir,
As a Dublin resident I am interested in what happening around the city. In 2012 I was an Inside Dublin
program Graduate, a newcomer from Europe, when I first decided to participate in the life of the city. I
became a volunteer at the Heritage Park and Museums, and I served as a Heritage and Cultural Arts
commissioner between 2013-2016. I enjoyed every minute of participating of the work we did and serving
my city. Sadly, we moved out of Dublin, so I could not apply for my second term as a commissioner. In
2018 we moved back to Dublin, so as a "Dubliner" again, I would like to continue the work I started.
2® Please list any current or recent memberships in art, culture and heritage
organization!
Since I moved to the USA 8 years ago, I learned how important culture and heritage is.
I am a member of the Dublin San Ramon Women's Club.
I am the Assistant director of the East Bay Hungarian Educational Group, a nonprofit organization
whose mission is to provide cultural, educational, and language development for Students in the
Bay area. We plan and organize cultural programs for the community. We organize a Mardi Gras,
a Mikulas event, and a Hungarian Festival every year just to name a few.
I am the admin and organizer of two regular dinner clubs.
I am an inactive volunteer in the Dublin Heritage Park and Museums. Before my daughter was
born, I worked there with school groups, and I was a greeter there.
3. What experience do you have serving on advisory committees, task forces,
boards or commissions?
I served as a Heritage and Cultural Arts Commissioner from 2013-2016. I was a member of the Dublin
Crossings Park Task force team. I served on the Board of the East Bay Hungarian Educational Group in
2018. So, the work of the commission, a Task force or a Board is not unknown to me.
4® What education, training or experience do you have in cultural arts or
heritage?
As a former Heritage and Cultural Arts Commissioner, I have many years of experience with cultural arts
and heritage. I worked as a volunteer for years at the Heritage Park and Museums. I am an Inside Dublin
Program Graduate from 2012. In my personal life I am researching my family tree because I think our
heritage, our roots are important.
5. List the artistic, cultural, and/or historic activities in which you have
participated, particularly within the City of Dublin.
Since we arrived in the USA in August 2011 and moved here to Dublin, I participate on the big events
around the city every year, for example the St. Patrick's Day celebration, Splatter, Heritage Park and
Museums events, and exhibits, Tree lighting celebrations at the city center, Volunteer celebration event at
Shannon just to name some. Farmers Market in Emerald Glen park as well.
6® What aspect of Dublin Heritage do you feel is most important to preserve and
why?
There is a couple important part of Dublin's heritage. The public Arts around the city, every one of them
having a story, the History Center at the side of the Camp Parks, but most importantly the Heritage Park
and Museums. I think that park, the buildings, the Pioneer cemetery are the most important part of
Dublin's Heritage, what the city should cherish and maintain to be able to show to future generations as
well,
7e What knowledge do you have of public art and public art programs in Dublin?
I learned from it first in the frame of the Inside Dublin Program in 2012. My favorites parts are the Dublin
signs along the Dublin Boulevard, with the shamrock background or the pictures under the I-680 overpass
at the Dublin Boulevard. But the art pieces in the Dublin Parks are amazing addition to the cities culture
too. As a commissioner I learned the details of the programs, and we worked on the update several times.
As a commissioner I learned about the challenges of the Public Art too, for example the City's struggle to
solve the problems around the Dubliner piece next to Bart followed the commission trough the 4 years I
have been there.
8. If faced with a controversial decision, how would you determine what is in t
best interest of the community?
Decision making was always part of my professional life.
My experience is that there is no decision which is good for everyone, because we are different, but we
should decide which suits the best interest of most of the stakeholders. In the case of the city of Dublin,
the interest of the community. As a commissioner I prepared every time we were planned to vote on
something and I asked around my friends, technically I made a little survey to know what others think
about the topic.
9® What is the most important contribution you feel you can make as a member of
the Heritage & Cultural Arts Commission?
Dublin is a quickly developing city, with a lot of energy in it because of the diverse community and
culture. With my international experience and my previous Heritage and Cultural Arts Commissioner's
experience I can be a useful addition to the commission and support the work of the city.
1. Please describe any experience you have as an arts grant maker or grant
seeker.
I have experience from both sides. As a former Commissioner I helped the city of Dublin with grant
decisions for example for the use of the High School Theater. In the same time as an Assistant Director of
the East Bay Hungarian Educational Group I researched and helped the organization to apply for several
grants.
SIGNATURE Timea Iharosi OCCUPATION here in the USA a Homemaker, Assistant
Director of the East Bay Hungarian Educational Group, but my profession is business and economics. In
Europe I was an International project manager, and quality manager.
