SUBJE : Request for the Placement of Purple Ribbons on City Street Trees to Recognize
the American Cancer Society's "Paint Your Town Purple" Campaign

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will consider Debbie Magallanez's request for the placement of Purple Ribbons
on City street trees to recognize the "Paint Your Town Purple" Campaign.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the placement of purple ribbons on City Street trees.

DESCRIPTION:
Debbie Magallanez, Dublin Relay for Life Event Chair, has requested the City of Dublin approve
the placement of purple bows at Dublin intersections to promote the Relay for Life community
event which will take place on July 10-11, 2010, at Eleanor Fallon Middle School. Relay for Life
is an event, in association with the American Cancer Society, that gives communities a chance
to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight
back against the disease.
This is the fourth year this request has been made and if the City Council concurs with this
request for the placement of Purple Ribbons, Dublin Relay for Life Event volunteers would once
again organize the placement and removal of the ribbons on City trees and poles closest to the
following intersections: San Ramon Valley Blvd and Dublin Blvd, Village Parkway and Dublin
Blvd, Sierra Court and Dublin Blvd, Dougherty Road and Dublin Blvd, Hacienda Blvd and Dublin
Blvd, Tassajara Road and Dublin Blvd, and Tassajara Road and Gleason Drive, the week prior
to the event (May 15th through May 22nd). Ribbons will only be placed on City trees and poles
along the street sidewalks and not be placed on the street median trees or control devises (i.e.
stop signs, directional signs and cross walk signs).

None.

Good afternoon Mrs. Soto,
Dublin Relay fox Life will be hosting a Paint your Town Purple on May 15 through May 22nd. Building
Relay Communities - Sharing the Power of Purple
All Relay participants know the true "Power of Purple." They seen lives changed when they attend Relay
For Life for the first time and the sense of victory when those who have battled cancer walk their first
Survivor Lap. You never forget the emotion of placing a lumuiaria bag around the track for someone you
love. You want to shate all that the Relay event is with others in your community.
That's why we would like to invite the City of Dublin to share the Power of Purple and bring awareness to
the meaning of our Relay Event which will be held on July 10th & 11 th at Eleanor Fallon Middle School.
Communities across America, from big cities to small towns, are ready to turn purple, which help them get
ready to participate in the Relay event by spreading the word about Relay For Life in our community,
Dublin schools, and local workplace. Any place where people gather can be a place to invite others to take
up the fight.
We are asking that the City of Dublin consider granting the Dublin Relay for life a Proclamation for our
upcoming Paint Your Town Purple event and receive approval to place 4 Purple Bows on the following
Dublin intersections:
San Ramon Valley Blvd and Dublin Blvd (4) Bows
Village Parkway and Dublin Blvd (4) Bows
Sierra Court and Dublin Blvd (4) Bows)
Doughtery Rd and Dublin Blvd (4) Bows
Hacienda Blvd and Dublin Blvd (4) Bows
