This honor coincides with the City of Dublin's 30th anniversary of incorporation. In August 2011, an ad hoc committee was formed to discuss how the two events should be celebrated. The committee, comprised of Mayor Sbranti and Councilmember Hildenbrand, suggested that the City celebrate both events simultaneously at an event to be held in the summer, around the 4th of July at the Heritage Park and Museums. Page 1 of 2 ITEM NO. 7.4 Staff is proposing afamily-friendly event on a Saturday in July. Currently, Staff is holding July 7, 14 and 21 as potential event dates and is seeking the City Council's input on the best date to hold the celebration. In terms of the event details, Staff is proposing a daytime event from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event is tentatively titled - "Dublin - An All-American Anniversary" and will feature food and activities that are quintessentially American. Staff is exploring activities and games including: sack races; three-legged races; a water balloon toss; kid-friendly activities, such as face painting, inflatables, and crafts; tractor and wagon rides; and a display of public safety vehicles. Staff is recommending a staged concert featuring American blues music, in addition to a more informal performance by a local folk musician. Traditional American foods will be served, including hot dogs, apple pie, ice cream, kettle corn, and root beer. Birthday cupcakes, in honor of our 30th year, may also be offered. Children of all ages would also be invited to decorate bicycles, scooters, wagons, and strollers in red, white, and blue, and parade around and through the park. Dignitaries from Dublin's past, including former Mayors and City Councilmembers, will be invited to participate in the event, and will be asked to provide some fond memories from Dublin's history. Anewly-discovered chalkboard, showing the original tally of votes taken regarding Dublin's incorporation, will be unveiled. Anew exhibit on the history of Camp Parks will also be on display in the Heritage Park classroom. In addition to the above described signature event, the City will continue its celebration of the All-America City distinction and 30th year with cone-time fireworks display and concert in conjunction with the upcoming food and wine event scheduled in September 2012 at Emerald Glen Park. Details of the new food and wine event will be presented to City Council in March 2012. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH: None ATTACHMENTS: None Page 2 of 2
