Agenda Item 4.8
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:The City Council will consider participating in the 2022 St. Patrick's Day Parade by riding as a group on a decorated float.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:Direct Staff to proceed with securing and decorating a float to be used by the City Council during the parade.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:Costs associated with the decoration of the float are covered in the current operating budget.
DESCRIPTION:At the December 21, 2021 meeting, the City Council discussed methods of participating in the upcoming 2022 St. Patrick’s Day Parade and directed Staff to further investigate potential options to be presented at the January 2022 meeting. After evaluating options, Staff believes the use of a single float carrying the City Council as a group is the most effective tool for the parade. A single float will keep City Councilmembers together along the parade route while allowing for equal visibility to spectators. Staff has looked into single flatbed and trailer options from 5’6” by 10’ up to 7’7” by 12’, which would be decorated with the St. Patrick’s Day theme and would incorporate the City’s 40th (Ruby) Anniversary to be marked on February 1, 2022. The safety of the City Councilmembers will be paramount in Staff’s selection of the specific vehicle to be used.Staff is seeking City Council approval of this concept in order to move forward with preparations for the parade.
