EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will present a commendation to outgoing Alameda County District Attorney
Nancy O'Malley, in appreciation of her dedicated service to the County of Alameda and City of
Dublin.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Present the commendation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
DESCRIPTION:
Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley first joined the Office of the District Attorney in
1984, working her way from attorney to Chief Assistant District Attorney in 1999. In 2009, she
was appointed District Attorney, and elected to the position in 2010. She is the first woman to
serve as Alameda County's elected District Attorney.
District Attorney O'Malley brought new and innovative programs to Alameda County during her
time in office, including model responses for identify theft, real estate fraud, truancy,
environmental protection, and sexual assault and domestic violence.
Under District Attorney O'Malley's leadership, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office has
provided service to keep the communities of Alameda County and the City of Dublin safe, has
worked to improve the painful experience for victims of crime. The City Council will recognize
District Attorney O'Malley as she finishes her service as the Alameda County District Attorney.

A COMMENDATION OF THE CITYCOUNCIL
CITY OF DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA
Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O'Malley
WHEREAS, Nancy E. O'Malley is the first woman to serve as Alameda County's elected District Attorney and is known as a leader throughout
California and the country for her innovation and vision; and
WHEREAS, since joining the Alameda County District Attorney's Office in 1984, District Attorney O'Malley rose through the ranks to become
Chief Assistant District Attorney in1999 until her appointment by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in September 2009 and subsequent
elections to the position of District Attorney in 2010, 2014 and 2018; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, District Attorney O'Malley has been a strong advocate for victims' rights and committed to doing all she
can to improve the experience for victims of crime in Alameda County by prosecuting hundreds of felony matters ranging from child sexual
assault to domestic violence and murder; and
WHEREAS, District Attorney O'Malley created the `Alameda County Family Justice Center (ACFJC)" in 2005 which has provided thousands
of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, elder abuse, and human exploitation and trafficking with a range of services,
and has received numerous awards for excellence; and
WHEREAS, District Attorney O'Malley founded the `Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit" in 2005 and launched the `HEAT
Watch Program" in 2010, which is the first of its kind in California and unites multiple agencies in the fight against human trafficking; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dublin applauds District Attorney O'Malley for her integral work serving Alameda County, but particularly for her
work serving vulnerable populations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Dublin City Council does hereby commend District Attorney Nancy E. O'Malley on this loth
day of December 2022, for her 38 years of expertise and support for Alameda County, California and the United States of America.
