YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 28, 2011
CALL TO ORDER
The September 28, 2011 meeting of the Youth Advisory Committee was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by
Chairperson Vasquez.

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING – August 24, 2011
ON A MOTION BY CM RASTOGI SECONDED BY CM AITHA AND BY A UNIANIMOUS
VOTE OF 13-0-0, THE COMMITTEE VOTED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF AUGUST 24,
2011 AS PRESENTED.

NEW BUSINESS
Youth Fee Assistance Fundraising, Teen Special Events and Subcommittee Reports
CM Vasquez chair of the Texting and Driving Subcommittee suggested that the Public Service
Announcement (PSA) for texting and driving video presented to Committee Members at the September
meeting, be edited and shortened. CM Vasquez will provide the shortened version of the PSA at the next
meeting for members to view. The goal is to have the PSA shown on the Dublin High School daily video
bulletin, once a month with a different message each month.
The Special Event Subcommittee continues to work with Staff on the planning and coordinating of teen
special events.
The Youth Fee Assistance Fundraising Subcommittee continues to formulate ideas for fundraising
activities. Subcommittee Members plan to assist at the Dublin High School Homecoming Carnival at an
activity booth to help fundraise for the Youth Fee Assistance Program. Jasmine Bafaiz originally
volunteered to chair this subcommittee but due to time constraints she stated that she cannot adequately
do the job. CM Anand volunteered to be the Chair of the Youth Fee Assistance Program subcommittee in
place of Jasmine Bafaiz.
Appointments to the Car Show Subcommittee
Staff Members Luna and Gamez provided an overview of the Car Show. Staff Member Gamez told the
Committee that the plan is to have the Car Show take place at Emerald Glen Park in the spring of 2012.
Last year the Car Show was held at the Fallon Sports Park. The goal is to have commercial vendors
provide food and products for purchase at the Show which would raise funds for the Youth Fee
Assistance Program and the Senior Foundation. Staff feels that this event has a lot of room for growth and
the potential to be very successful.
CM’s Kakarla, Sung, Vasquez and Li volunteered to be on the Car Show Subcommittee and attend future
meetings.
OTHER BUSINESS
Staff Member Gamez stated that a SAT/ACT preparation course will be offered on October 8th at the
Shannon Center. Registration fees from this course will be donated to the Youth Fee Assistance Program.
Staff Member Gamez also informed Committee Members of upcoming teen special events.
• November 18, 2011- Teen concert at the Shannon Community Center.
• March 24, 2012- Teen Job Fair at the Dublin Senior Center.
ADJOURNMENT
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:44 p.m. by Chairperson Vasquez.
