CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 2. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS 2.1. Public Comment At this time, the public is permitted to address the Youth Advisory Committee on non-agendized items. Please step to the podium and clearly state your name for the record. COMMENTS SHOULD NOT EXCEED THREE (3) MINUTES. In accordance with State Law, no action or discussion may take place on any item not appearing on the posted agenda. The Youth Advisory Committee may respond to statements made or questions asked, or may request Staff to report back at a future meeting concerning the matter. Any member of the public may contact the Recording Secretary’s Office related to the proper procedure to place an item on a future Youth Advisory Committee agenda. The exceptions under which the Youth Advisory Committee MAY discuss and/or take action on items not appearing on the agenda are contained in Government Code Section 54954.2(b)(1)(2)(3). 3. CONSENT CALENDAR Consent Calendar items are typically non-controversial in nature and are considered for approval by the Youth Advisory Committee with one single action. Members of the audience, Staff or the Youth Advisory Committee who would like an item removed from the Consent Calendar for purposes of public input may request the Chair to remove the item. 3.1. Minutes of the December 11, 2019 Special Youth Advisory Committee Meeting The Youth Advisory Committee will consider approval of the minutes of the December 11, 2019 Special meeting. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approve the minutes of the December 11, 2019 Special Youth Advisory Committee meeting. 4. WRITTEN COMMUNICATION 5. PUBLIC HEARING 6. UNFINISHED BUSINESS 7. NEW BUSINESS 7.1. Tri Valley Teen Job and Career Fair The Youth Advisory Committee will receive a report regarding the Tri-Valley Teen Job and Career Fair. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: January 22, 2020 Dublin Youth Advisory Committee Agenda Page 2 of 2 Staff recommends all Youth Advisory Committee Members assist in promoting the Tri-Valley Teen Job and Career Fair and attend the event. 7.2. Youth Advisory Committee Booth at the Dublin St. Patrick's Day Festival The Committee will be asked to volunteer at the annual Youth Advisory Committee booth during the City's St. Patrick's Day Festival. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Volunteer for one or more three-hour shifts during the City's St Patrick's Day Festival on Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, to operate the Youth Advisory Committee booth. 8. OTHER BUSINESS Brief information only reports from City Council and/or Staff, including committee reports and reports by City Council related to meetings attended at City expense (AB1234). 9. Youth Advisory Committee Mini Grant Program Applicant Presentation Laura Johnston, Recreation Supervisor, presented the specifics of the item as outlined in the Staff Report. The Committee received the report and presentations. After the presentations concluded, Committee Chair Jain opened the floor for discussion. The Committee discussed each presentation and recommended funding amounts for all 6 organizations to include; Quarry Lane Environmental Club $400 Dublin High School Overbooked Club $160 Dublin High School P.A.T.C.H. Club $340 Dublin High School Teens United for Education $200 Boy Scouts Troop 904 $100 TedxYouth@Dublin $400 Motion by Committee Member Jegadheesh, seconded by Committee Member Vasquez with Committee Members Dhot, Lakshman, Phaneedra, Saini, and Vij being absent, and Committee Chair Jain and Committee Member Goel, and Mitr abstained, and by unanimous vote, the Committee recommended awarding Quarry Lane Environmental Club - $400; Dublin High School Overbooked Club - $160; Dublin High School P.A.T.C.H. Other Business Committee Members provided informational reports on recent events and meetings attended. Henry Siu, Recreation Coordinator thanked the Committee Members who attended the Tri Valley Youth Advisory Committee Roundtable held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the San Ramon Community Center. Mr. Siu also thanked the Committee Members who assisted at the City’s Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, December 5, 2019. Mr. Siu reminded the Committee that the December 25, 2019 Youth Advisory Committee meeting has been cancelled and the next regularly scheduled Youth Advisory Committee meeting is Wednesday, January 22, 2020. Mr.Siu reported that he attended the Senior Center Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, December 5, 2019 where he was able to provide information and answer questions about the Dublin Benefit Concert event which will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Two Senior Center Advisory Committee members have joined the Benefit Concert Subcommittee to assist the Youth Advisory Committee recruit/select performers and promote the Dublin Benefit Concert. 9. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends all Youth Advisory Committee Members assist in promoting the Tri- Valley Teen Job and Career Fair and attend the event. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. DESCRIPTION: The Tri-Valley Teen Job and Career Fair is an event sponsored by the Dublin/San Ramon Women’s Club and the cities of Dublin, Pleasanton, San Ramon and the Town of Danville. Each year the event is held at a community center in the tri-valley and teens are offered the experience of mock interviews, resume writing, and workshops such as managing finances and interview techniques to assist them in applying for jobs. Local employers will attend the event to interview and hire teens for the summer as well as positions that are available throughout the year. Last year, the event was held on March 3, 2019, at the Dublin Senior Center with approximately 350 people in attendance. This year the event will be held at the City of San Ramon Senior Center on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Event flyers will be distributed to Danville, Dublin, Pleasanton, and San Ramon Middle and High Schools in early February 2020. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None DESCRIPTION: Each year during the City’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival, the Youth Advisory Committee operates a booth. At the booth, Committee Members offer a “spinning wheel” activity and collect a donation from Festival participants who choose to spin the wheel for various prizes. All donations received from the activity will benefit the Youth Fee Assistance Program which offers fee assistance for recreation programs to qualified persons who could not otherwise participate without the fee assistance. Volunteer shifts are available are both Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15, 2020. Shift times for each day are 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 12:00 to 3:00 PM, and 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
