On February 20, 2001, Art Consultant Lynne Baer presented the Council with a proposal. In order to involve children in the project, the proposal identified two workshop scenario options. Scenario 1 The program would be coordinated with Dublin Unified School District and incorporated into the middle school curriculum. Scenario 2 A nine-week workshop would be incorporated into the City's Parks and Community Services Recreation on Campus (R.O.C.)'program. R.O.C. is an after school program conducted at Wells Middle School. The banner art program would be one of the Special Interest Classes for which participants register. The City Council opted for Scenario 1. Prior to proposing the options Dublin Unified School District was contacted to ascertain interest in participating in the project. It was indicated to Staff that there would be an interest. However, over the past eight months, Ms. Baer and Staff have attempted numerous contacts with District personnel in an attempt to set up the project. Response has not been forthcoming. In order to move forward with the project it is the recommendation of the Art Consultant and Staffthat the City Council reconsider the scenario options and direct Staff to proceed with Scenario 2. Under this scenario, a Special Interest Class to produce the banner art would be incorporated with the Recreation on Campus program beginning with the next session of the program scheduled for February 2002. If the City Council does not concur with this recommendation, alternate direction from the Council is requested.
