DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF: MAY 8, 2003

Oral Communications - None
Approval of Minutes - IT WAS MOVED BY MARY LOU BIELKE, AND SECONDED BY
GREER PAYTON TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF APRIL 10, 2003 AS CORRECTED
(UNANIMOUS). UNDER SENIOR HOUSING THE LAST SENTENCE OF THE LAST
PARAGRAPH SHOULD READ: AN ATTRACTIVE METAL FENCE WILL BE PLACED AT THE
BACK OF THE BUILDING DIVIDING THE SENIOR HOUSING FROM THE TARGET
PARKING LOT FOR SECURITY PURPOSES.

Old Business
STEP OUT FOR SENIOR CENTERS
Staff reviewed the activities of the Step Out for Senior Centers Event scheduled on Saturday,
May 17. Check-in and registration for the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will be led
by Mayor Lockhart starting at 9:00 a.m. Approximately 45 walkers have registered for the walk
with additional patrons expected to sign-up on the day of the event. The breakfast will start at
approximately 9:00 a.m. or whenever the walkers return from the one-mile walk. Volunteers
from the Dublin Historical Preservation Association will prepare the breakfast consisting of
pancakes, sausage and orange juice; members of the Dublin Sister City are set to serve the
patrons. This year both of the Dublin Safeway Stores donated a total of $75 toward the breakfast
supplies and the Dublin Senior Foundation will pay for the additional supplies needed for the
event. Shirley Dougarian will provide entertainment during breakfast. George McHugh
volunteered to be the photographer for the event. Paul Silvas, Greer Payton, Mary Lou Bielke,
Barbara Gifford and Burr Cain also stated that they would attend the event.
During the event, the Alameda County Fire Department will present their Vial of Life Program.
LAS, HICAP, Real Care and Senior Support will discuss their programs and services.
Information will also be available from Wheels, Alameda and Contra Costa County Area Agency
on Aging, and
New Business – None
Other Business
The Committee discussed the results of the joint meeting with the Parks and Community
Services Commission on Monday, April 20th. With a few suggested color scheme changes to the
entrance of the building, the Commissioners approved the interior color scheme of the new
Senior Center. Paul Silvas and Mary Lou Bielke attended the Commissioner meeting.
marquettes of five public art entries for the new Senior Center are currently on display at the
Dublin Senior Center and patrons may vote on their favorite entry.
