Old Business
The Committee asked if more pieces of furniture would be brought to the Center for the patrons
to preview. Staff stated that patrons should expect more furniture for previewing but no date has
been specified.
The Committee asked about the status of the new van and when the van would be available.
Staff announced that while the policy and procedures for use of the van is currently being
formulated, Staff could not speculate when the van would be available for use by the Trips and
Tours Program. The operational cost of the van, which is funded by the City, is currently
budgeted for three trips a month with some additional use of the van for transportation to and
from the Center for Dublin residents. Staff hopes to give a more accurate update of the van
status and availability soon. The City plans to utilize only City staff to drive the van, and
volunteer drivers will not be used. One way more trips could be possibly offered is if the cost of
the trip is underwritten by a sponsor.
New Business
Staff gave a Spring 2003 Quarterly Report. The Committee reviewed the report of the statistic
and comparison to prior years. Staff reported that the increase in attendance was due to the
increase in trips offered, and the doubling of attendance in several classes and special events,
such as the Volunteer Banquet in April and the Step Out for Senior Centers Event in May. It was
suggested that the progression from past year to current year would show better if the past year
was shown on the chart first. Although there was a slight drop reflected in the report, it was
revealed that if the numbers are shown by percentage, the change is relatively minor. George
McHugh volunteered to make and provide graphics to visually show the increase in activities
offered at the Dublin Senior Center.
Other Business
Staff announced that Janet Ryan, whose last day was on July 25, is happily retired and enjoys
living and recreating in Sparks, Nevada.
Staff announced that the City Volunteer Banquet originally offered in September would be held
in February 2004.
Staff requested that the Committee start thinking about items to be placed on the agenda and to
discuss at future meetings. It was suggested that the Committee review the Dublin Senior Center
Advisory Committee Bylaws and review the section on attendance and possibly changing the
meeting days from the second to the first Thursday. The Committee requested that a copy of the
Bylaws be given to each Committee for review. The Committee stated that each member study
the Bylaws for discussion at the next meeting and make recommendations of any changes to the
Parks and Community Services Commission and the City Council as needed.
A member of the Advisory Committee requested that the September meeting be changed from
September 11 to September 4. It was also suggested that the Dublin Senior Center Advisory
Committee which currently meets on the second Thursday be changed to the first Thursday of
the month starting in February 2004 (since New Year’s Day in 2004 falls on the first Thursday).
One of the reasons for the change is that so the Dublin Senior Center Advisory Committee has
their interests addressed in a timely manner by the Commission and the City Council.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 A.M. by Committee Member Silvas and seconded by
Committee Member Bielke. Motion passed by unanimous vote
Respectfully submitted,
Anna Hudson
Recreation Coordinator
