Report from Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Rich Guarienti
Guarienti attended the California Parks and Recreation Society Conference and gave a brief overview to
the Committee. Two of the workshops he attended were applicable to the Senior Center. They were
“Getting Acquainted with New Seniors” which addressed understanding the new age seniors who are
healthy and active; and dealing with transitioning. Guarienti stated the focus was to find your passion and
seek out others who share it. He recommended that individuals who have a “passion” start a group that
can draw people together with a common interest, much in the same vein as how Trail Trekkers
developed. The second workshop was the “Aging Boom” planning for the next generation of older
adults; the baby boomers becoming seniors.
