HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-03-2007 SCAC MinutesPage 1 of 2 CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF MAY 3, 2007 Call to Order Chairperson Al Edge called the meeting to order at 9:03 a.m. Roll Call: Committee Members (CM) Present: Al Edge, Diane Bonetti, Martin Baron Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Present: Rich Guarienti Staff Present: Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator, Diane Guenther, Office Assistant Committee Members Absent: Beth Wood, Jim McCuen Oral Communications Report from Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Rich Guarienti Guarienti attended the California Parks and Recreation Society Conference and gave a brief overview to the Committee. Two of the workshops he attended were applicable to the Senior Center. They were “Getting Acquainted with New Seniors” which addressed understanding the new age seniors who are healthy and active; and dealing with transitioning. Guarienti stated the focus was to find your passion and seek out others who share it. He recommended that individuals who have a “passion” start a group that can draw people together with a common interest, much in the same vein as how Trail Trekkers developed. The second workshop was the “Aging Boom” planning for the next generation of older adults; the baby boomers becoming seniors. Approval of the Minutes THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 1, 2007 MEETING. MOTION BY CM MARTIN BARON, SECONDED BY CM DIANE BONETTI. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 29, 2007 SPECIAL MEETING. MOTION BY CM DIANE BONETTI, SECONDED BY CM AL EDGE. Written Communication- None Unfinished Business L.I.F.E. Event Update Hudson presented the Committee with the status of the event and a draft of the event flyer. A lunch of hot dogs, apples and water will be prepared for 500 attendees. Dennis Richmond, of Channel 2 KTVU news will be the speaker. Raffles will be held hourly and the following items have been donated; trunk kits and crank radios from AAA; gift certificates from Target; Nob Hill, Black Angus, and Pete’s Seafood. Home Depot will donate some yet-to-be determined items. Wheels will have bus passes available for distribution. The Department of Consumer Affairs has approximately 100 Mylar window shades that will also be used as raffle items. The Senior Center will hand out flashlights with event evaluations. CM Baron stated that many companies needed a longer lead time to make donations. Bulletin boards advertising the event have been put up at the Library and the Senior Center. CM Baron presented the Committee with a draft event evaluation form. CM Baron is also working on a video advertisement for the event but stated that it may not be ready for this year’s event. There was discussion on how to define the success of the event. It was suggested to have individuals with clipboards verbally conduct a exit evaluations of the event, so that participants need only answer questions and not need to write their answers. CM Baron suggested that maybe attendance alone is all the analysis needed of the event CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF MAY 3, 2006 PAGE 2 OF 2 CM Bonetti made the motion to accept the report, CM Baron seconded the motion and the Committee approved. New Business 2006 Fall Quarterly Report Hudson presented an overview of the Fall Quarterly Report. She briefly went the over the highlights of the report. The Committee had no comments to give except to request that the report be provided sooner after the quarter ended. CM Baron made the motion to accept the report, CM Bonetti seconded the motion and the Committee unanimously approved.
