New Business
McCreary asked Chairperson Wood to move Item 8.1 ahead of unfinished business.
CITY OF DUBLIN INTERGENERATION GOLF TOURNAMENT
Recreation Supervisor, Rich Jochner presented an overview of the Intergenerational Golf Tournament to
be held June 24 at the Dublin Ranch Golf Course. The tournament will begin with a “shotgun start”.
Marketing efforts will focus on teens and older adults. The anticipated participation target is to have at
least 18 foursomes, or 72 participants. Individual entry fees are $65 per adult, and $30 per senior/teen.
The cost includes golfing, green fees, golf cart rental, a dinner, silent auction and awards.
Jochner stated the ultimate goal of the event is to raise funds for the Youth Fee Assistance Program.
It was noted that some golf clubs will be available for rent, and participants do not need to be experienced
golfers. The tournament is set up in a scramble format which is not competitive.
Committee Members commented that this event was a fantastic low cost opportunity for seniors and
teens.
CM Baron recommended that the Committee put together a foursome.
CM Wood asked Staff for what type of players the event was designed. She suggested that if less focus
was placed on competition then perhaps less skilled golfers would be more readily come out to play.

CM Baron suggested that flyers about the Tournament be available to pass out at the Come to Life event.
Jochner stated that this program is great opportunity for grandparents and their teens to get together and
for family connections.
McCreary indicated the City would be promoting gift certificates for the event as a Father’s Day gift.
Unfinished Business
COME TO LIFE EVENT
Hudson reported that the event was renamed. The Marketing Subcommittee felt that the “LIFE:
Mindquest” theme would be confusing for those who do not regularly attend the Senior Center and that it
did not create a sense of urgency or interest to attend the event. The Marketing Subcommittee
recommended renaming the event “Come to Life – Play, Explore, and Connect.”
Staff reported that Doug McConnell will be the keynote speaker, and other interactive entertainment
includes “Dana and Lacey” and “StAGEbridge”.
Hudson introduced Senior Recreation Leader, Casey Nunn, who will be assisting with the event planning.
Since the Subcommittee wanted to place an emphasis on fun, Nunn suggested giving away a happy face
bubble maker and pen. The pen would be imprinted with the words “Play – Explore – Connect” along
with the Senior Center phone number. Nunn also suggested giving out post-it note pads imprinted with
the Come to Life logo and the Senior Center address and phone number.
CM Baron and Wood suggested a creating a “Glen the Guide” writing pen.
CM Baron asked about making and using buttons or pins to advertise the event. Nunn suggested making
stickers instead since many people may not want to stick pins in their garments.
CM Wood suggested getting in touch with the publicity person for Doug McConnell to garner additional
assistance with promoting McConnell’s appearance at the event.
Staff presented the Committee with two conceptual designs for the event flyer. After some discussion the
Committee chose Concept A with some modifications for Staff to incorporate into the final flyer. The
Committee also reviewed three event post card options and the Committee chose both Concepts 1 and 3.
The Committee concurred with the choice of serving “piadine” wraps from Tomatina, and vitamin water
donated by local grocers.
CM Baron asked if a dessert was going to be offered. Staff indicated some simple snacks would be
available in the afternoon.

A correction was made to the Senior Center Winter Attendance Comparison Table; replacing Total Days
with Total Drop-In Attendance.
CM Wood asked if Senior Center rentals generated the expected amount of revenue to date. Staff
indicated that rental revenue was on target for the budget, which is approximately $40,000.
IDENTIFICATION OF SENIOR CENTER FROM AMADOR VALLEY BOULEVARD
The City Council has a high priority objective to improve identification of the Senior Center from
Amador Valley Boulevard (AVB). The existing Dublin Senior Center monument sign is not visible from
AVB. Customers have suggested having a sign facing AVB to better identify the facility, particularly for
newcomers.
The Committee expressed interest in purchasing an electronic reader board. McCreary indicated that the
preliminary estimates for reader boards range from $12,000 to $20,000 and exceed the $5,000 budget for
FY 2007-2008. Since there are not enough funds to install an electronic reader board, Staff recommended
moving forward with Alternative 1, and requesting funds from the Foundation to install an electronic
reader board as a separate project next year.
The Committee engaged in a discussion covering the location, lighting, solar options, green options and
expressed their concern that the idea for the need of the reader board is not overlooked in the future.
CM Wood concurred with the need to have the Senior Center be easier to identify from the street.
CM Baron would prefer a back-lit sign. CM Baron asked if the Committee wanted to have a sign to
solely identify the Dublin Senior Center, or maybe develop a partnership with the shopping center to
install a reader board to promote both.
CM Wood asked if the cost could be reduced by using a wireless sign with solar power on the corner of
Amador Valley and Donohue.
Staff stated that there is wireless technology available for programming the reader boards, but was unsure
about options for solar power.
Commissioner Guarienti expressed an urgent need for an identifier for the Dublin Senior Center and
suggested the Committee support Staff’s recommendation.
CM Baron asked if a conceptual design could be provided. McCreary indicated that could be made
available. The Committee wanted to appoint a subcommittee to provide input to Staff on the conceptual
design.
CM Baron made the following motion:
The Committee recommends moving forward with Alternative 1 and appointing two Committee
Members to review the conceptual design, and request funding from the Foundation for an electronic
reader board. CM Vanderpool seconded the motion and the Committee unanimously approved. CM
Wood and Bonetti were appointed to the subcommittee.

2008-2009 FOUNDATION FUNDING REQUEST
Staff sought input from the Committee on potential funding request items from the Dublin Senior
Foundation for Fiscal Year 2008-2009.
CM Wood suggested purchasing smaller four-person tables for senior events. She was concerned that is
was difficult to hear and carry on conversations at larger tables. The Committee engaged in a discussion
about the pros and cons smaller tables, including hearing issues, storage and the possibility of renting
tables on an as needed basis.
CM Vanderpool suggested a bigger more comfortable van. Guarienti indicated LAVTA is in the process
of giving away their surplus handicapped accessible vans. A meeting to provide information and
application for consideration will be held on April 22.
CM Baron suggested purchasing at least one more revolving book rotunda for the Dublin Senior Center
library. He shared that seniors can not easily reach the books which are placed on shelves located above
the computers particularly when the computers are being used.
The Committee recommended that Staff ask the Foundation for funds to purchase the reader board
and a revolving book rotunda.
Other Business
CM Wood asked about the status of the three Council objectives the Committee had recommended to the
Commission; which included expanding use of the City website, feasibility of expanding food service
hours/program, and the carpool program. McCreary indicated the Commission and Council both
identified all three items as high priorities, and that final approval will be determined at the Budget
Hearing on June 26.
CM Wood requested that Staff devise a system to track Staff’s progress on suggestions made at
Committee Meetings by the Committee Members. She suggested creating a large board that would be in
front of the dais during meetings. This would keep the issues in front of the Committee and be a way to
track new suggestions that are made.
McCreary indicated that those suggestions should already be noted in the meeting minutes.
Commissioner Guarienti stated that suggestions made at the Committee meeting could be compiled each
month and presented at the annual meeting at the Senior Center when the Committee is conducting
outreach for feedback on potential goals and objectives. This would allow patrons to provide feedback on
the potential ideas and how they are prioritized with other issues.
Commissioner Guarienti noted that the Parks and Community Services Commission did not meet in
March.
As requested by the Committee last month, CM Guarienti passed out handouts and gave a brief summary
of a workshop he attended at the Annual California Parks and Recreation Society Conference on
“Positioning your Senior Services for Success”.

CM Wood asked Staff if there were any leadership specific assignments that the Committee Members
need to fill for the Come to Life Event. McCreary indicated that anyone interested in volunteering at the
event should contact Casey Nunn who is scheduling the volunteers.
CM Bonetti gave an update on the April Senior Foundation meeting. She indicated that the Foundation
contributed $100 toward decorations for the special luncheons at the Senior Center. She also distributed a
pamphlet from a new senior care provider located in Dublin.
CM Wood asked if Staff could develop a welcome packet for the Come to Life Event. McCreary indicated
that the Parks and Community Services Department has an existing Welcome Packet available for
distribution. CM Wood suggested adding information and flyers about the senior programs to the packet
for this event.
Guarienti announced that he purchased a plaque for the Foundation’s Donor Wall reading “Keep on
Trekkin”.
Staff suggested the Committee plan an official visit to the San Ramon Senior Center which was recently
expanded. The Committee agreed to go to the new San Ramon Senior Center for lunch after a meeting in
the near future.
Adjournment
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:40 a.m.
