Report by Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator

DESCRIPTION: The Senior Center budget includes funds to conduct four community
special events each year. A new event called the “Hometown Heroes Celebration” will be held on
Saturday, November 9, starting at 2:30 at the Dublin Senior Center. The purpose of the event is to honor
all of Dublin’s Veterans and their contributions to the Country and community.
The event will begin with a recognition ceremony led by Mayor Janet Lockhart. The ceremony will
include a Color Guard Flag Ceremony, a poetry reading and presentations by special guests. Following
the ceremony there will be a free performance by the Air National Guard Band of the West Coast. This
band has performed throughout the United States and abroad and is host to some of the finest working
musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area and California’s Central Valley.
Light refreshments will be available throughout the day. The event will also feature displays highlighting
Senior Center patrons who are veterans. The community will also be invited to add to the displays with
information about other residents who are Veterans. Staff will also be coordinating participation in the
event with Camp Parks.
The event is free of charge, however pre-registration is suggested as space is limited to 250 seats.
Registration can be done by calling the Senior Center, or visiting www.DublinRecGuide.com. A limited
number of seats may be available at show-time depending on the level of pre-registration.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Advisory Committee receive the report.
