New Business
ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON AND VICE CHAIRPERSON
CM Edge motioned to defer the election of officers until there is a full Advisory Committee and have
Vice Chairman Baron serve as Chairperson until that time. CM Bonetti seconded the motion and the
Committee concurred.
PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MEETING PRESENTATIONS
The Committee will determine the schedule once the full Advisory Committee in place. Until that time
CM Bonetti will attend the January meeting and CM Baron will attend the February meeting.
FALL 2008 QUARTERLY REPORT
Hudson provided the Committee with an overview of the report.
CM Baron asked about the status of the LIFE workshops. Staff indicated they had been stopped for a
while due to low attendance and lack of interest. The workshops will be starting back up in January with
a presentation on Scams and by Senior Support in February. Volunteers will specifically be invited to
attend LIFE workshops to help educate them.
CM Baron commented that he has attended workshops by Mary Hiayashi and they have been very
successful. He felt the exposure of having her here would be good for the Center. Staff noted that she
had been scheduled to have an eye exam program at the Center but the requirements for a minimum

enrollment were not met. Staff explained for elected officials to have workshops at the Center is difficult
to do. Guarienti suggested a Saturday program would be the place to do this.
Guarienti noted some discrepancies in the in Attendance Report and pointed out there is a lot of data in
the report and that it might be better to reflect trends. He suggested pointing out the new events and those
should be highlighted at the Commission meeting. He recommended not including the Attendance Report
to the Commission but to include the new events and the ups and downs of programs. He suggested
incorporating some of the information in the table to the narrative of the report.
Staff asked the Committee if they would prefer more information in the narrative. The Committee would
still like to see the table and CM Baron would like to see which programs are succeeding.
SUGGESTIONS FOR SENIOR CENTER WEBPAGE MODIFICATIONS
McCreary presented the Committee with an overview and asked them for their input.
CM Bonetti suggested simple domain name to make the webpage easier to access. CM Edge and
Guarienti agreed a simple name is best. Guarienti suggested it could be a simple as
dublinseniorcenter.com.
CM Bonetti would like the site to have activities and plans on the page. To make it welcoming so that
people know they are invited and welcome to the Committee Meetings. CM Edge and Bonetti offered
their phone numbers as personal contacts.
Guarienti recommended including names and pictures of the Committee Members so that people can
relate a face to the name. He suggested using photos as links to more detailed information; reduce the
number of links and use eye catching links to important events.
CM Baron commented that he remembers information best by short repetitive hits. The site should be
clear and simple, not flashing, that too much detail and people get lost. Staff indicated there are funds to
launch and advertise the site.
CM Baron noted to have a positioning statement and use it consistently.
Staff indicated the primary purpose of the site is to advertise the Center and other resources will be
available but will not be primary. The site will be able to count the number of hits.
Committee members suggested dublinseniorcenter.com and dublinsenior.com as possible domain names
and asked that the name be kept simple.
It was also suggested to add a map in the corner of the site.
Staff will come back to the Committee with conceptual ideas.
PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
McCreary provided the Committee with an overview of the report. He noted the next couple of years will
not be ones of expansion.

McCreary reviewed the 12 Goals and Objectives for 2009-2010 and of those goals and objectives one
relates to the Senior Center. Goal number 4 is to “expand the use of the Senior Center on Saturday
mornings for programs and classes.” CM Edge suggested a monthly breakfast be included.
CM Baron commented he had asked about the Committee meeting 3 times a year in the community and
would the Goals and Objectives be the place to add this. Staff indicated this will be discussed at the
February meeting.
Guarienti proposed a Saturday class/walk exploring the city parks once or twice a month. He suggested
the title “Nature is calling isn’t it time you made a visit; the health, healing and spiritual benefits will
amaze your.” Guarienti volunteered to lead this activity and proposed it would be intergenerational and
geared towards casual easy walking. He suggested it be included as part of Goals and Objectives number
5 “expand fitness and wellness classes (aerobics, yoga, pilates, cardio, etc.) and create flexible
participation options.”
Guarienti noted the map in the Guide needs to be updated and could also be used as a handout. He also
suggested that a representative of the City; such as the mayor, could come along as a “walk and talk.”
CM Edge made the motion to approve the Goals and Objectives with the modification to Goal 5 to
include “outdoor recreation.” CM Bonetti seconded the motion and the Committee concurred.
Other Business
The Foundation did not meet this month.
Staff indicated that Saturday, February 28th is the tentative grand opening of Shannon Center. It will be
open for rentals in June and 5 rentals have already been booked sight unseen.
CM Baron asked if there would be some type of acknowledgement of the outgoing Committee members.
Staff suggested inviting them to the luncheon next week and acknowledging during the luncheon.
CM Baron acknowledged the growing population of unemployed and this could be an opportunity to use
our Center as a meeting place.
CM Baron asked there has been a Chairpersons luncheon? Staff suggested inviting other Centers in the
area to a luncheon.
Adjournment
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:53 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
