SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF MARCH 3, 2011
Call to Order
Vice Chairperson Bonetti called the meeting to order at 9:37AM.
Roll Call:

The newest Committee Member, Lee Sandeman, gave a brief introduction of herself.

The Advisory Committee Members gave brief introductions of themselves.

Approval of the Minutes
CM MACK HAD MADE A MOTION AT THE FEBRUARY 3, 2011 ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MEETING TO APPROVE THE DECEMBER 2010 MINUTES. DUE TO THE TERMING-OUT AND
ABSTENTION OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS IN ATTENDANCE AT THE DECEMBER MEETING,
THE MOTION DID NOT RECEIVE A SECOND. AS A RESULT THE MINUTES WERE
RECONSIDERED AT THIS MEETING.
CM MACK MADE A MOTION TO RECEIVE THE DECEMBER MINUTES. THE MOTION WAS
SECONDED BY CM CERVANTES. BY A UNANIMOUS VOTE THE MINUTES OF THE
DECEMBER 2, 2010 MEETING WERE RECEIVED BY THE COMMITTEE.
CM MACK MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE FEBRUARY 3, 2011 MINUTES. THE MOTION
WAS SECONDED BY CM CERVANTES. THE COMMITTEE APPROVED THE MINUTES OF
THE FEBRUARY MEETING WITH CM’S SANDEMAN AND PEDERSEN ABSTAINING.

New Business
ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON AND VICE CHAIRPERSON
The Advisory Committee conducted the election of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.

CM MACK NOMINATED CM BONETTI AS CHAIRPERSON; CM CERVANTES SECONDED
THE MOTION AND THERE WERE NO OTHER NOMINATIONS. THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MOTION.
CM CERVANTES NOMINATED CM SANDEMAN FOR VICE CHAIRPERSON; CM PEDERSEN
SECONDED THE MOTION. CM MACK NOMINATED CM PEDERSEN AND HE DECLINED
THE NOMINATION. THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE
MOTION.
SECOND ANNUAL PICNIC IN THE PARK
Hudson reviewed the plans for this picnic event as outlined in the Staff report.
CM Cervantes shared that Michelle Whalen is the new contact person at The Groves to coordinate this
event with the Senior Center.
CM Cervantes suggested that a map of Emerald Glen be made available to provide directions.
CM Cervantes suggested inviting the youth volunteers from Valley Christian School again to assist
seniors with mobility issues; she commented the seniors really enjoyed having the kids help last year.
CM Cervantes stated that Fuddrucker’s may have a mobile vehicle available for catering and suggested
contacting them. She said she also knew several residents at the Groves who enjoy grilling and might be
available to barbecue at this event.
CM Cervantes suggested that she, CM Sandeman and Connie Mack help market and advertise the
activities offered at the Senior Center event at The Groves.
REVIEW OF SENIOR CENTER MISSION, VISION, AND VALUES
McCreary provided the Advisory Committee with an overview of the Senior Center’s Mission, Vision and
Values as outlined in the Staff report. The Advisory Committee engaged in a discussion.
CM MACK MADE A MOTION TO ADD OUTREACH TO THE EXISTING LIST OF VALUES; CM
CERVANTES SECONDED THE MOTION AND THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY
APPROVED THE MOTION.
McCreary asked the Advisory Committee for suggestions as to what they would like to accomplish for the
coming year.
CM Sandeman suggested offering a bus trip similar to what is offered in Dublin 101. She commented that
the narration offered in the 101 tour was outstanding. She additionally suggested featuring information
about the Heritage Center, Shannon Center and the Senior Center in the tour.
CM Cervantes suggested including information about the Transit Center as part of the tour.
CM Cervantes suggested creating a brochure highlighting businesses useful to seniors.
CM Cervantes suggested offering a workshop on how to sign up for Dial-a-Ride; commenting that seniors
are really in need of transportation.

Connie Mack suggested adding a slide show on the Center’s computers and on the Center’s website
highlighting our activities and bringing programs to seniors who don’t have transportation to the Center.
CM Cervantes volunteered to offer off-site registration of activities to the Groves on a quarterly basis as
part of an outreach effort.
The Advisory Committee discussed the types of strategies that can be implemented for outreach.
CM Mack volunteered to provide outreach with the churches.
CM Cervantes suggested a Senior Welcome Packet and the Advisory Committee engaged in a discussion
about what that could be included.
CM Mack suggested offering a fashion show and having seniors model their favorite clothes. The
Advisory Committee engaged in a discussion as to what this might look like. She also suggested using the
Dublin High School Culinary Program as possible caterers.
Staff will come back with suggestions for strategies at a future meeting.
Other Business
CM Bonetti gave a brief report on the Dublin Senior Foundation. The Foundation authorized $550 to
purchase a new stainless steel serving cart. The Sirlin Family had made a $100 donation to be used
towards the purchase of a new utility cart. The Foundation also authorized the purchase of a pair of
walkie-talkies for the Trail Trekkers. The Foundation will also purchase 300 bingo cards.
CM Bonetti announced that the Intergenerational Car Show and Ice Cream Social will be held on April
23rd from 11:30AM to 2:30 p.m. at the new Fallon Sports Park. Flyers are now available for distribution.
Connie Mack gave a brief report of the Parks and Community Services Commission and their joint
meeting with the Youth Advisory Committee. The Commission had approved the amendments to the fee
schedule. She noted that the new Dublin Heritage Park and Museums is set to open in late June or early
July.
McCreary reminded the Advisory Committee that St. Patrick’s Day weekend will be on March 12-13.
McCreary briefly mentioned the food distribution program is undergoing a transition.
The Advisory Committee agreed to the following schedule for making presentations at the Parks and
Community Services Commission meetings: March-Bonetti; April-Sandeman and May-Pedersen.
