Roll Call: Committee Members (CM) Present: Diane Bonetti, Eddie Jo Mack, Lee Sandeman Committee Member Absent: Sue Cervantes, Tim Pedersen Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Present: Connie Mack Staff Present: Paul McCreary, Assistant Director of Parks and Community Services; Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator; Diane Guenther, Office Assistant Oral Communications - None Public Comments - None Approval of the Minutes THE SEPTEMBER 1, 2011 MINUTES WERE AMENDED AS FOLLOWS: page 2, Strategic Goal #3B, “She noted that many of the materials are available on the City website and would just need to be transferred to the packet. CM MACK MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE SEPTEMBER 1, 2011 MINUTES AS AMENDED; CM SANDEMAN SECONDED THE MOTION. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE AMENDED MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER MEETING BY A VOTE OF 3-0-0 WITH CM CERVANTES AND PEDERSEN ABSENT. CM MACK MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE OCTOBER 6, 2011 MINUTES. THE MOTION WAS SECONDED BY CM SANDEMAN. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER MEETING BY A VOTE OF 3-0-0 WITH CM CERVANTES AND PEDERSEN ABSENT. Written Communication – None Unfinished Business - None New Business 2011 SUMMER QUARTERLY REPORT Hudson provided the Advisory Committee an overview of the report as outlined in the agenda statement. She pointed out that participation in programs and activities has grown slightly. Staff commended and thanked the members of the Advisory Committee for their volunteer participation at the Center outside of their Committee commitments. CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 3, 2011 PAGE 2 OF 3 OVERVIEW OF THE HOMETOWN HEROES EVENT Hudson reviewed the upcoming event and noted that there are approximately 50 “Hometown Heroes” photo entries. There will also be a display about Camp Parks and its’ significance. CM Bonetti thanked Hudson for all her efforts in organizing this event. Other Business SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS CM Mack reported she will be following up with CM Pedersen about Strategic Goal #1C: “Make presentations at local churches to promote Senior Center programs and services.” to determine the status of the updated lists of churches in Dublin. Staff has met to do some pre-planning prior to meeting with the subcommittee on Strategic Goal #2A: “Plan and implement an annual intergenerational event with the Youth Advisory Committee.” Staff plans to meet next month with the Sub-Committees from both the Senior Center and the Youth Advisory Committees on the proposed event plan. CM Sandeman reported on the status of Strategic Goal #3B: “Create and distribute a Welcome Packet for older adults moving to Dublin that highlights programs, services, parks and facilities available through the City.” The Committee Members provided the subcommittee with feedback on the suggested materials in the packet. Staff suggested the Sub-Committee create a way to measure of success of the packet. CM Sandeman will provide a sample packet at the next Advisory Committee Meeting. OTHER REPORTS Parks and Community Services Commissioner Mack reported that City Council has approved a food and wine festival for next year. The event will include local restaurants, food trucks, culinary demonstrations, entertainment, a culinary marketplace and a one-day farmer’s market. The event will be held at Emerald Glen Park. She also noted that the Commission recently attended the Tri-Valley Commissioners dinner in Danville. CM Bonetti reported the Dublin Senior Foundation discussed the upcoming Holiday Boutique where 42 vendors will participate. Coffee and bagels will be sold in the morning, and cold drinks and nachos in the afternoon. The activity will be advertised in the local media and is included in the upcoming Guide. The Foundation will be recruiting new members which will be advertised in the Dublin Doings. CM Mack attended the grand opening of the REI store with Commissioner Mack. CM Sandeman suggested that the monthly lunch menu be available on the Senior Center website. Staff will follow up on this suggestion. Guest Rich Guarienti commented on the Path Wanderers recent excursion exploring Dublin. This activity included visiting Shannon Center, Dolan Park, and Mape Park. The more advanced Urban Explorers went on a walk that began at the Senior Center to the Heritage Park and cemetery, BART and REI. He noted these activities are educating people about Dublin. Those on the walk learned about many restaurants and retailers they were unaware of in the downtown area. He also reported on the Trail Trekkers trip to San Francisco to the Federal Court of Appeals for a tour. Rich noted that not everyone can participate in Trail Trekkers, Path Wanderers or Urban Explorers, and suggested a “one step at a time” program to get residents out and walking. Guarienti commented he attended the Harvest Gathering and felt it was an outstanding event. Adjournment Being no further business the meeting was adjourned by Chairperson Bonetti at 11:14 AM.
